PostPosted: 16:33 - 25 Apr 2010    Post subject: new d.b screen vibrating Reply with quote

Hi, i fitted a powerbronze double b. screen a few weeks back and with no lack of trying i cannot seem to solve the buzzing noise it makes around town at about 20-30 or so . When i pick up speed it stops but when i down change the the buzzing comes back in waves.
Is this some thing i can fix or are the powerbronze screens known tobe a pile of no good?

Any advice would be great, manythanks.

Get a popped innertube from a push bike and cut yourself some strips of that and place it inbetween the screen and nose cone. Are you possitive its the screen and not something you've left loose, sorry have to ask.

It will be the thickness of the new screen causing problems, like i said, popped bike innertube hidden under the fairing.

Some screen bolts have got rubber 'cones' on them to give it a bit of damping.

It's just be the screen finds its resonating frequency and goes off on one.

Change the bolts, or find another way to dampen the screen (like with a bit of inner tube) and it'll be fine.

I thought it was like the curse of BCF that you couldn't delete posts.

Oh well, it's preserved forever now.

You can use a thin smear of silicone bathroom sealant on the lip of the screen - it dampens out the vibrations so it will STFU Thumbs Up

I wouldn't... Silicone is for sealing. Lets just use it for what it was ment for in regards to vehicles.

It's fine on vehicles, have seen it used loads of times to stop fairings from squeaking. Obviously you need to let it dry first or you wont be able to remove the screen afterwards.

Rubber washers between the screen and the fairing should cure the vibration, you should be abled to get something suitable from a hardware shop or plumbing merchants.

I wouldn't go using an innertube then, as they're for use in tyres Wink

I best get rid of my ten rolls of Duct/Duck tape then, as I have no Ducks to tape to any Ducting... Neutral

You know what i mean guys, fuck off... Laughing
The reason i say this is because once people start to use it, they use it for stupid reasons, like siliconing their reg plates on... seen it done on 3 bikes now.

Screen went back on today and the news is good, no more vibration or buzzing sound running through it.
it took a bit of trial n error in the end the inner tube slices kept coming out and the noise would come back so i cut 1 one of those v2 visor sponges down as much as poss and wedged it in underneath either side of the screen. Thumbs Up
