Not so much a progress thread as most of the work is done but...

On July 8th last year i ran into a little 'trouble'... as a result of this 'trouble' i broke a few things...

https://www.ben.zenwebsolutions.com/ben/bandit2.jpg

https://www.ben.zenwebsolutions.com/ben/leg.jpg

After this little mishap I have got the bike back on the road...

Work Done:

New Frame
New Forks
Uprated Rear Shock (GSX-R 750)
Stainless Steel Frame Inserts
Braided Loom
Braided Hoses
Braided Cables
Polished Engine Casings
Twin Dominator Headlight
Jack-Up Dogbones (40mm)
Powder Coated Frame, Swinging Arm & Rear Brake Torque Arm.
Painted Forks, Yokes, Tank & Panels.

Work To Be Done:

Polish Rearsets
Paint Pillion Handles
Paint Rear Joining Fairing (end of tail piece)
Custom Purple Vinyl Graphics

I've done all of the work above myself with the exception of the powder coating (for obvious reasons).

Here's some pics so far:

Just a little bit..

I hit the back of a car at 50-60 mph.

Broke my right femur and had severe concussion, I don't remember any of the accident, infact i woke up after the crash and wondered why i was a mile away from where i last remember being.

Was out of hospital within 5 days and was back on a bike within 6 weeks of the accident and the leg is fine now, gives me no problems really except the occasional aching if I've been on my feet all day.

also.. purple is my favorite colour.. so.. that's why purple Razz

Do you know what you did wrong (prior to hitting the car). And thumbs up Thumbs Up for getting back on the bike straight away.

Must be quite a nerve racking thing.

i've been told what i did wrong Razz

there's a bus stop on the left hand side approaching a roundabout (about 100m away), buses aren't able to pull in to it properly because of cars parked nose to tail right to the ends of it, so they stop in the middle of the road.

i overtook the bus after taking the best look i could around it and seeing nothing there except a couple of cars at the roundabout.

there was a car just in front of the bus that moved forward as i did my overtake and i hit the back of it.. apparently i didn't even brake, but i don't know any more than that.

100% my fault and i won't be making the same mistake again.

I wouldn't say i'm nervous about riding, i love it and i'm still as "excitable" as i was before the accident.

I'm deffinitely more conciously aware of 'hidden' dangers now though, you know.. the 'what if's'

colour is obv a personal preference, i think it looks good.

Only gripe is that the monster 'claw' on the rear looks out of place Thinking

already on it.. non-standard manifold and the link pipe i have is 2" at the collector and at the slip on 2.5".

End can is a 2" slip on..

a standard 2" link pipe for a bandit won't fit the manifold (different angle and location), so i'm having one made to fit - just waiting on my welder getting back to me.

Just polish up the existing pipes, they're easy to get at so easy to keep on top of. I don't like the Monster stuff really, it's not terrible but it's a bit tacky, everyone's got Monster or Relentless plastered over their bikes now so i'd avoid it, plus I hate stickers.

bike looks pretty good,
i don't understand why people want advertising on their bikes,
are monster going to pay you for the mobile advert space on your bike??
why give them it for free.

in fact why do loads of people put monster energy stuff on their bikes??
surely they don't think it makes their bike look better, do they??

any way, imho leave the bike as it.

They make your bike go faster and double the cost of your bike Smile

joking aside, i like the bike form the current picks but think all thats left is the stubby can and leave it as it is Smile

borderline to having an overkill of purple but atm its nice i like the colour against the black and chrome.

nice bike

jelous too Razz

Cheers for the comments guys...

There is only one immediate thing left to go on the bike that is a 'visual' thing (other than stubbying the can of course) and that's a tank protector. which will probably end up being purple too and matching the rest of the vinyl.

The web address on the swinging arm is coming off - only stuck it on so I could take pictures for the guy that sorted out the stickers for me.

Going to pop to beowulf in early june and buy a link pipe off them (£29, cheapest I can find and only 10 miles down some nice roads)

Took my baffle out of my exhaust, yes it's loud, but it sounds better and it idles much better without it. will keep it under my seat and claim it fell out if I get pulled. it should quieten down a little when i get the right link pipe on.

once all that is sorted it's going to hog doc's in heywood to have the carbs balanced and tuned, hopefully get the thing back up to the power it should have (it struggles to go past 100mph on my private runway)

I have thought about drilling the airbox to allow more airflow to match the exhaust, but unsure if this will help - need advice on that one! and i'm not doing it until the exhaust is as it should be.

I have one other plan for the bike and that's a new front end.. with USD forks, perhaps off a TL1000 or an early GSX-R1100, waiting on one coming up cheap on ebay etc... anyone got one ? Razz, yokes, steering spindle, forks, wheel, brake calipers & discs, etc.?

No other plans really! - unless you guys can suggest anything ? Very Happy

Apologies for the wall of text.

Ben

Tank protector = make it black. Purple one will be too much purple.
