Need to get a new set of tyres next week for my CBR. I currently have some Continental Road Attack tyres but brand new are £180+ a pop, but could get a pair second hand (nearly new) for just over £100 probably (still watching them on ebay). Would like something fairly long lasting as well.

Just wondering what you would recommend, I'm skint at the moment so nothing too expensive!

Thanks

I use BT21s but they are about £75-85 each, taken me on two tours and have a fair bit of meat on them.

On the old pre FX CBRs BT45s are ok as long as you do not attempt super hero antics on them. Cost £60 each, and on my substantially lower power NTV650 lasted about 17K or there abouts ( forget the exact amount#) each on a more powerful bike like the CBer should last about 9-110000 miles more if you cut more tread into it with an xacto knife.

Unless you get part worns then it's likely to cost some decent money for a set.

Pirelli Diablo Stradas are cheaper than the majority of ST tyres around at about £140 ish a set.

Other than that you'll probably be advised to go for Roadsmarts or PR2's but both are pricey.

I've recently has some Avon Storm 2 Ultra's fitted which are Avon's newest ST tyre, apart from getting a punture after 315 miles they've been great, so much better than the BT021's I had on before them - cost me £210 including fitting as I took the bike in not just the wheels.

I'm in the same boat at the moment, and have been looking at Maxxis Supermaxx tyres, at about £120 a pair they seem like good value.

What's your budget?

What type of tyres are you after and what kind of riding are going to be doing?

The maxxis I had really sucked, wouldn't buy others from them after my experience.

If it's for fun riding and not loads of miles, I'd be tempted to see what deals there are on Diablo Corsas (originals, not Corsa IIIs which are still expensive at £200 fitted in superbike sizes).

i order mine from https://moto-tyres.co.uk/ You input the sizes and they will show you what is available to fit.

The absolute cheapest are "Vee Rubber" (made in Thailand), but I tend to go for slightly better ones - Shinko, Maxxis, Sava or Continentals and get them fitted at the local bike shop when the bike gets serviced or MOTd.

I have managed to pick up a bt021 partworn (still has the little rubber spikes on the sides) for £60 Smile so hopefully I should be okay until the front wears out Razz

How much did you pay for the tyres alone?

if its any help ghostrider as i saw you got quoted £50 fitting, i ordered a set of pilot road 2's myself from bct tyres (excellent service btw, morning after delivery and cheaper than everyone else)

Quote for fitting was 1/2 hour labour £22.50p, and £5 for new valves.

This was a ride in service, and it actually took the guy an hour as my spindle nuts were siezed, didnt charge me any more over what i was quoted either Thumbs Up

It was £34 for fitting and balancing so £176 for the tyres

Yeah I've phoned my regular bike shop and they've quoted me 50 for balancing and fitting, and another shop quoted me 45, possibly cheaper if I buy the tyres through them, but the guy I spoke to couldn't say whether this was true or not because the manager was out apparently Rolling Eyes

I'll go on a blitz of everywhere in a 20 mile radius to see if I can get anything cheaper, but I have a feeling thats the general price tag round these here parts, which is a bummer as I really didnt want to go over 200 for tyres and fitting.
