PostPosted: 15:22 - 28 Apr 2010    Post subject: occupation change Reply with quote

I am currently a student and am covered for social domestic pleasure and commuting to permanent place of work. My question is at the beginning of the policy i am classed as a student there is a 25 admin charge with my insurers, when college is finished will i have to pay this 25 admion charge everytime i change occupation and also when i become a tudent do i even have to tell them im working id like comeone to please clear this up for me, I was under the impression that as long as all facts on the policy are true when it was taken out i should be fine till renewal unless its a big change like change of address.

please help.

Don't give them a reason why not to pay out if anything ever happened.

I wouldn't inform them about not been a student when college finishes. (do you mean summer break)?

When does your policy run out?

im in the cooling off period so just started the policy and yes i mean summer break, i though as long as everything is valid on when the policy was taken out i should be fine and i would also be classed as a student whilst working in summer break Smile, this is why i am asking another reason isyou dont have to tell an insurance of speeding tickets until renewal this was told to me by my last insurers as i phoned them up and told they noted it and said it doesnt mantter until renewal as the fact were correct when the policy was taken out, it says on my policy covered for commuting to and from a single place of work and what the insurance advisor has told me soundslike a money spinner to me. If it isnt i will obviously be cancelling but honestly i cba with the hassle.

Someone could change there occupation multip0le times in one year and phonging up there insurance evertime is just daft it could be say 50 times a year ive even had a policy where my occupation was nothing to do with what mine was as mine wasnt on the list.

these are some of the facts of why im enquiring before deciding what to do as the advisor said i would have to pay to say im emplkoyed and get this when i go back to college to pay again to say im a student, so apparently even though im a student and it says i have commuting i wont be covered to drive to work orr a theft at a workplace becuase im classed as a student, dya see what im saying. sounds like a load of tosh.

and naturally they have made a note on my account about that conversation.

Commuting will cover you for going to and from college. So I would not inform them.

Change of job will only apply if you are going to use the bike for business use or racing.

I was told to inform your insurance company about points just out of courtesy. Then at least they are aware, so if you did have an accident then they could not use that against you,. As the call would have been recorded. Thumbs Up

so would i be covered if i get a temporary job suddenly thorugh a friend as long as it isnt for something stupid like business use? really confusing as the call has now been recorded im just asking people on here as were all bikers and maybe someone had experienced this or something similar.

Does commuting atm only cover me for travelling to college? and not to a workplace.

Commuting = college or work.

As long as your policy covers you for commuting then all is well with the world.

the advisor said commuting would only cover me for college why would they say that. Fair does they are sods.

So if i dont tell them of a new occupation it wouldnt come back to bite me in the arse should say it gets nicked or something also the conversation about the employment thing has been recorded, and thats why im worrying about it etc.

Commuting is commuting Thumbs Up

Whether one day you work on a building site around the corner and the next day you work on a building site 80 miles away, it is still commuting. Thumbs Up

Yes..

As long as you are covered for commuting then you are ok.

What insurance company would asks you where you are commuting too.

I have only ever included commuting not where and how many miles (although they do ask for your annual mileage).

Just get a temp job and commute on the bike Thumbs Up

If they said that commuting would only cover you for college then you should check your paperwork and/or call to ask if you're covered for commuting to work.

Commuting is commuting, they are trying it on. Just so they can get the £25 admin charge.

Insurance companys are a right bunch of thieving tw*ts.

what insurance company is this?

What they are saying is complete con!

Social, Domestic and Pleasure including commuting is just that!

Its not a requirement to state you changed job/college/summer holidays anyway.

So you can commute any where.

Does your ploicy schedule even state where you go to college? etc I doubt it does and its just a way of spamming you out of money!

Go to another insurer!

Swinton!

ive also been told theres a 50 cancellation charge for cancelling within the cool off period.

absolute bollocks £50 for exercising my rights.

There basically saying that my insurance would be invalid as i would fail to notify them of a change from student to employed.

If you explain that you are a student but also work part time, will they charge you the £25?

Sounds like they are putting you on a spin.

I would look into trading standards/relevant party about this as it sounds like a complete load of b/s to me!

Next they will be asking you to pre-plan your journeys to get authorisation from them and then pay as you ride mile for mile! ha, ludecrus!

Not sure i actually have anything else constructive to contribute so keep us posted.

They were justifying by saying that I must notify them of any changes such as occupation not doing so will invalidate blah blah blah, its not the travelling im worried about its cover for theft whilst parking at a workplace. I have recently had a bike stolnm so that why im being extra maticulous and cant afford the admin fee twice in one yeasr as im broke.

I wasn't previously clearon this earlier in this thread as it turned into a story and you sort of forget the major point lol, but my problem is cover whilst parking in a workplace when on my insurance i am classed as a student.

After recent events this is the sort of thing that i play out.

Parked bike at work, bike gets nicked.

What was the purpose at to why you were parked wherever?

I reply i am working , they turn around and say your classed as a student anot in employment sir we arent going to do anything for you.

I've never notified my insurance of a change in occupation, but then, I've never been involved with insurance due to a crash.

bike gets nicked at work just tell the insurers you had stopped in to see a friend Laughing Laughing

unless you have a job as a test rider or pizza delivery person then it shouldnt matter really as you wont be using the bike when you get to work
