Hi All

I just bought my Gf a YBR125 and have discovered that it needs the choke to start every time.

Now, it's been a while since I rode a 125 but I don't remember having to have the choke on every time no matter how cold/warm the weather is.

It starts perfectly on the button without choke, but if you try to rev it it just dies.
stick the choke on, it idles high as you would expect and after about a minute you can turn the choke off and it revs freely and happily.

Is that normal? I can understand on a cold morning having to use the choke btu on a hot summers day as it has been recently you still have to do it Confused

the bike is a 2005 ybr, the carb has 2 wires going to it, I haven't got a clue what these do, just want to know out of interest TBH Smile

is it worth cleaning the carb out?

Cheers!
Rich

Sounds normal to me. Mine has always taken a few minutes to warm up before it will return to idle after revs without cutting out. Even in this warmer weather, I find I need the choke for a minute or so before the bike will idle properly. It's been like that since I bought it 2 years ago and I've put 26'000 miles on her since then. You could try adjusting the idle screw on the carb a little bit to raise the idle speed but if it's sitting at 1500RPM when fully warm (after a long fast ride) then leave it be.

Edit - the wires are the electrical connection to a heating element that comes on below 16 degrees Celsius to evaporate moisture and stop the carb icing.

I take it these bikes destroy their battery if left connected during the winter months then?

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?
