Went to look at my old f***** mito engine the other day. It turns out that another problem (on a very long list) was the engine casing- a crack! I did check the engine over before my bike engine died - n me being a twat n listening to my dad (sos dad) agreed that the engine was just covered with oil n shit (you must agree that most engines are dirty!) Could this loss of engine oil have caused the big end bearing to f*** up?

Hi

A cracked engine casing should not wreck the main bearings. Mains would be affected by a lack of 2 stroke oil. The cracked cases might let gearbox oil out, and might affect crankcase compression, but I doubt it would affect the flow of 2 stroke oil

Where exactly is the crack?

All the best

It is difficult to say..... close to where the two halves of the casing meet. A mate of mine also has a mito and the same side casing on his was knackered- so he's got my old damaged one. We were quite surprised when we actually put gearbox oil in and it just flowed out! (we didn't know it was damaged at first) He's patched the hole with some resin of some sort- it still sounds a bit of a cowboy job to me! I found out last night that he's now selling his mito. It's ok, but he's selling it to a mate for £1300! (the price he bought it for) Sounds a bit OTT to me in it's current condition. I thought it was funny a few weeks ago when he was only offered 5 to 600 quid for it against a T reg mito (7 speed though) at the Yamaha centre in Wigan- he didn't take that too well!

I see what u mean Keith, but I don't know why my engine buggered up in the first place. It's done (did do!!) 22000km. Could it have just been due to wear? I have read on this site that you have an RS. Have you had any problems with that eg siezure or big end knackering up! Which model is it? My mates got a 94 L 125. The fairing at the front is knackered, clutch is playing up and it also has had a siezure and rebuild. (with a re-chromed barrel) How many km's has yours done? and how often do you get it serviced?- cheers Keith.

Hi

Sounds a strange place to crack.

I have an early RS125, one of the first batch in the country, registered in about October 1993. The bike has done 16000km from new. It has used 1 clutch cable, one rear shock, one set of rings plus a piston and rings (suspect I did not gap the first set correctly, so when I replaced them as a matter of course it turned out the piston was dead as well), and I had an ignition problem. No trouble with the gearbox or clutch (they can get noisy, but still seem to work fine and race clutch plates can be easily bought if you want). I do change the gearbox oil regularly and aim to change the rings at 6000km. My old Futura had a ring fail at 7200km which wrecked the barrel, and the mains were replaced at 15000km (they would have lasted longer but were noticably worn and I was selling the bike so did a deal with the dealer where I would drop the engine out and he would do the bearings).

I have an early AF1 with 32000km on the clock. That has had major engine problems, mainly due to an incompetant dealer. My better half has one of the same model with 20000km which has been very reliable, despite being thrashed 2 up to work for quite a while.

All the best

Keith
