Sounds a strange place to crack.
I have an early RS125, one of the first batch in the country, registered in about October 1993. The bike has done 16000km from new. It has used 1 clutch cable, one rear shock, one set of rings plus a piston and rings (suspect I did not gap the first set correctly, so when I replaced them as a matter of course it turned out the piston was dead as well), and I had an ignition problem. No trouble with the gearbox or clutch (they can get noisy, but still seem to work fine and race clutch plates can be easily bought if you want). I do change the gearbox oil regularly and aim to change the rings at 6000km. My old Futura had a ring fail at 7200km which wrecked the barrel, and the mains were replaced at 15000km (they would have lasted longer but were noticably worn and I was selling the bike so did a deal with the dealer where I would drop the engine out and he would do the bearings).
I have an early AF1 with 32000km on the clock. That has had major engine problems, mainly due to an incompetant dealer. My better half has one of the same model with 20000km which has been very reliable, despite being thrashed 2 up to work for quite a while.
