Question ? Can you get a tubeless tyre repaired if you have a puncture.
I got a puncture on Saturday it was a small staple like piece of metal
that punctured it it took about 40 minutes to go down and the bike was parked up so there was very little damage to the tyre and the hole was dead in the centre.
I have been to 2 garages that have told me without looking at it it can't be fixed.
Here's the catch I had to get the AA out who put a temp repair in it to get me home.
I asked him before he put it in if it would mean I couldn't fix it and he said no, has anyone else had this problem or is my tyre f@%*#.

Yes you can but subject to the following:

Again depends where the hole is, and the size, gashes and side wall punctures cannot be fixed but holes from nails can be fixed the upper limit is 4.5mm after this the caps are too big to fit in properly.

Double punctures i.e. staples like you say can be fixed too.

Essentially take a photo and post it up if it is long almost a gash no can fixie, if it is just a hole get thee a tyre repair kit and fix it, takes 3 minutes to fix properly. You just need to be aware if it goes flat flat then it may have bead and seating problems.


Note many places say it can't be fixed to get you to buy a new tyre or simply they don't want to do the job. Speedy for example on my first ever puncture didn't want to do it and said £50, I told him no and took it to matt who plugged it for £9.

If the AA man used one of those figure of 8 stabthrough bungs, I'd just leave it and carry on as-is.

At one point I had two of those in the rear tyre of my VFR750. Did 4,000 miles with a bung in.

A mate of mine rode the rear wheel on his speed triple down to the canvas with three bungs in it. The only rubber left round the centre of the tyre was the bungs.

They cover their arses by saying no more than 50mph and no more than 200 miles on a bung. In my personal oppinion, they are a permanant fix.

If you're really concerned, you could bung a bottle of slime in too, then in the unlikely event that the bung fails, they tyre should stay up.

I reckon you're more likely to get another puncture elsewhere on the same tyre than to have the bung fail (I've had a lot of punctures, but never had a bung fail).

What tyre is it?

The BS standards that apply to tyre repairs do not allow Z rated tyres to be repaired, and so many tyre places refuse to repair them. Fair chance that if you have a hunt round you will find a small tyre place that is happy to repair it irrespective of the British Standards.

Above 'V' rating NO REPAIRS.

I have repaired loads of V rated tyres and run to the wire/cord.

But.... I guess you are accepting a fair amount of risk in doing so.
BS have possibly made recommendations on actual statistics (Accidents) or from Tyre Manufacturer's recommendations.
Some would argue that this sells tyres.
I can see where the argument to replace rather than repair has some ground.
V rated and above are subjected to much more loading than lesser tyres so to protect structural integrity of the tyre no repairs are permitted.
It is a trade off between £100 for a new tyre or £5-16k for a new Bike.
