Tbh, I like the sound of IL4's. Which the battery won't do.
And house in KTM chassis and fairing? Why? Could they not make their own? ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

as nice an idea electric bikes are, unless you can charge them in less than 2minutes no ones going to buy one.
you have to step forward not backward and a vehicle that can only do 150 ish miles than requires 2 or more hours to recharge is a step backwards.
plus.. where does everyone think the electricity comes from
not only that but the batteries are terrible things. cant be recycled (as far as i've been told) so will end up in landfill with all those chemicals seeping into the ground.. nice
hardly 'green'
oh if only they could invest a bit more in hydrogen fuel cell tech and storeage. now that is a green solution thats worthwhile. ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

it is alot easier to control the amount of emission from one large set point(i.e.power station) than it is millions of moving vehicles. ____________________ TL1000R Fighter,TL1000R ,Husaberg 650 ,883 sportser,Ducati 996,RGV/RS 250 Special Fighter

Still not very green as the energy to produce that hydrogen has to come from somewhere, and generally, that means burning stuff. |
For those that don't know, hydrogen can be produced fairly easily by using distilled water and electricity or can be produced from smoldering just about anything that burns.
The last "bang goes the theory" episode (probably still on iPlayer) had a car that ran on coffee beans that they drove from London to Manchester. Heat was added which caused them not to burn but to be hot enough to release carbon monoxide and hydrogen. This hydrogen is what would normally cause the visible flame if a spark was added and they were actually on fire. Anyway, the hydrogen in this case was pumped in to a normal internal combustion engine to be used directly as fuel. In fact, it mentions that after WW2 this is how many vehicles were run in the shortage of other fuels, except they used wood not coffee beans.
The main problem with the smoldering method though is the fuel that is required to create the heat in the first place. Heat is a very inefficient way of initiating a process that creates electricity or stored energy. As such, I strongly dislike coal power plants.
With a fuel cell though the hydrogen is combined with oxygen again in a process which produces just about as much electricity as it would have taken to spit the water molecules in the first place. This distilled water can then be re-captured and be turned back in to hydrogen with the electricity generated from things like regenerative braking and other such KERS systems found in these vehicles.
Using electricity from renewable power sources or even nuclear power to create hydrogen though is definitely the best way forward as the energy is then stored to be used at any time and doesn't have to be used immediately (as it is on the national power grid for example). It also negates the need for batteries which are not cheap, environmentally friendly and have many failings.
So basically, as I've said before on these forums, if we just mass produce hydrogen on a massively distributed scale and from nuclear power I think we'll be set forever. ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.
G: With my GSXR I do often effectively use it as a scooter with a clutch in town.
ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |
