Hello

The Honda CG125-BR 1990 motorbike i own i am baffled with the electrics of this CG.

The battery in it is 6V yet all the bulbs are 12V bulbs, what volt is this bike a 12v or 6v ?

Thanks

Solo

I'm sure the japanese built bikes are 6v and the brazilians are 12v, my one (identical to yours actually) was a 12v, as was my other BR-J and my mates BR-E.

My CG was made in Brazil and is all 12v, but it is a newer model to yours.

Some basic googling suggests that the 1990 CG is definitely 12v though as you can buy a new rectifier for that model and year listed as 12v.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

You might fry the regulator.
Is it CDI? or Magnito?

The voltage supply may need to be controlled for the ignition system.

If it is 6v in it then replace with 6v

You would probably have to renew the bulbs all round too.

Why would you replace the wrong battery with another wrong battery? AFAIK every single CG125 made since 1985 (when production was moved to brazil) has had 12V electrics. Some gimp has put the wrong battery in this one.

It's a points ignition btw Thumbs Up

Just to be on the safe side, i'd put a multimeter across the battery with the engine running......

Hi X9Travels - being cheeky but if your getting rid of your 6v Battery, I may be interested in taking of your hands for a few bob! Could you either PM me with a pic (or post it here) or would you know if it will fit a Suzuki GP100??

Let me know, Cheers

AFAIK all CG125's built in Brazil since 1985 were CDI ignition (no points) and were 12v. The bike is a credit to honda if its running a CDI with a 6 volt battery. What was the multimeter reading when you revved the bike up to about 2K with the probes across the battery terminals?

Slightly wrong, the first CG to have a CDI came in about 1994/5, for the BR-S/T models, easily identified by the curvy tank and plstics Thumbs Up
