....Over filled your bike with oil?
Well I did last Friday, noticed a alot of smoke pouring out of my cans on the R1 on route to work.
As soon as I noticed the smoke I hit the kill switch and noticed what I have done.
So all weekend I stripped the fairings off, radiator off, spark plugs out and turned the pistons over with it in gear (not by using the starter). Then until nothing more came out turned it over a few times with the starter. Cleaned up the spark plugs then reassembled.
Que smokey Joe time. 30 mins on tick over until all the smoke went, it did then took it for a little ride, seems OK.
Now I know the piston seals can go after having too much oil in it, but I have never experienced it.
So my question is, what symptoms would I expect if the seals have gone? More smoke? loss of power? Sudden engine explosion?
Any help will do. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

I would expect the first two, more smoke and possible loss of power, I did it to my first bike and it forced its way out of the actual engine casing but did no other damage, we all learn the hard way |

Yeah I am on about the oil ring seals, they are around the piston area right?
And yes I put about 1 litre too much in there. It was weird, because I had the oil warning light on in the morning, I started to fill the oil up and kept checking the window, nothing was showing, so I kept filling up. Stupidly!
Bike feels as it should, no oil leaks on any of the gasket areas at all, so I am guessing it will be OK. But my old man put a doubt in my mind, hence the question. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

Interesting, thanks, luckily I bought a new K&N air filter, should turn up in a couple of days. I will have a look at that then. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

Worst bikes for overfilling are those with dry sumps with a external oil tanks there are alot of idoits about would do not know that you check the oil on theses when the engine is warm and overfill them when cold like the cunt who l brought the TTR off ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |
