Since passing my DAS i've been lookingto buy a bigger bike, im looking to buy a newish bike 2006 onwards but the insurance is killing me.
For example - an SV650s is around £700 FC or £500 TPFT which is a hell of a lot.
a Gixxer 600 is £1600 FC or £1200.
Not surprising as my stats are -
25 year old
0 NCB
licence held less than 1 year
what to do, what to do??
Do i bite the bullet and just pay or ride my 125 to build up some NCB?
What do you lot pay for your little beasties ____________________ on the look out for my next bike....

£62 TPFT for my CBR600F, but I'm an old man with 5 years NCB.
The way to think of it is like this:
Would you like to be raped now or would you like to be raped later?
Insurance is effectively a scam. you only win when you lose and when you win you lose.
I.e. you ride you crash, you are indemnified by the insurance company, however the insurance company will tell other insurance companies of your claim and the next year and for the following 4 years will gouge you senseless with loaded claims.
it depends if you can afford to pay now or pay later, if you can afford or get credit to buy another bike outright (which is often the case with older rattier bikes) then comp makes no sense as simply you break it you buy another one as overall it will cost less over the next 5 years. If you can't then you can be gouged over a longer time (as with a new bike) but eventually it will cost you way more than the bike you are replaced with.
My XT600 was stolen sure I could report it and claim but they would load my claim for the next 5 years costing me more than a replacement fot the XT would cost. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Oh and - Why not got an older SV? Even for TPO insurance, exactly the same model of bike but older is cheaper to insure.
An older SV doesn't really 'lose out' much compared to the newer ones - and the cash you saved could easily be used to make it better than a newer one.
I forget if I went TPFT or FC, but it was £130 and £160 respectively - 30 years old, lots of NCB, but a couple of claims two years ago (and this was before a recent 3 points ) on an 06 GSXR1000. |

TPFT every time. Last time I went through insurance (non fault) I used a private legal team which helped no end in making sure I was properly reimbursed for all losses.
I pay £160 for 2 bikes. 9 years NCB helps though... ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Buy an older bike.
Realistically bikes from 2002-2004 are just as good and have a lower purchase price, and/or lower insurance. ____________________ My Flickr |

I insured a 2006 R6 1 day after passing my test at 23, fully comprehensive for £820. I had my car licence for 6 years with 3 years NCB though.
£1600 seems very steep!

21, 4 years NCB, GT550, FC (only because it came with TPO cover to ride other bikes, no TPO or TPF&T came with it ) £130
The postcode won't help... But just got for an older bike. I've learnt quite a bit this past few years, (Thanks to G mainly!)

Look at it this way.
Can you afford to replace the bike should you bin it or someone nicks it.
No, then its FC
No, but I can live without a bike while I save up for another TPFT
YES, Then you can risk TP only or TPFT. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I'm 35 with 0 years NCB, bike garaged overnight and pay £111 for VFR750 TPFT, for my CB500 I was paying 80 odd quid I think it is beacause I'm old and said I only did 4000 miles a year.... ____________________ "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."
