Honda CG125 Oil

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of doing an oil change soon. The bike is a 4 stroke engine and I've always used 4 stroke engine oil.
Tesco are selling motorbike engine oil for a 2 stroke engine for £5.50 a litre. Castrol brand. Will this be ok in my engine?

It will completely destroy your engine.

2 stroke oil is designed to be mixed with fuel and lubricate the piston directly. It is therefore also kind of burnt as fuel.

In a 4 stroke engine the oil never mixes with the fuel, it is not designed to be burned off inside of the engine and will be an incredibly poor lubricant in the sump of your engine in comparison. Your piston might seize, your bore will be scored, your piston and rings ruined, your valves, bearings, cams etc, etc, all ruined.

And anyway, Morrisons value oil, 1L (which is how much you need) costs about £1 or just over, so do the right thing

CG doesnt require synthetic.

Morrissons usually carry Halvoline Premium, 5 litres for under a tenner. This is a reasonable 15/40 engine oil, fine for your CG.

Synthetic is for tuned bikes running at temperatures and speeds your CG wouldn't dream of reaching.

Any old 10/40w will do.

What you have to bear in mind is that the CG engine was designed for use in third world countries so was designed to run on just about anything slippery enough. In places like India if you change your oil by the roadside you'll have someone after your used oil before it finishes dripping out of the bike. There is a lot of crap talked about oil, in our workshop we use 10/40 semi synthetic on all but very few bikes. I have used the same in my bikes for years and never a problem, my old 250 runs on the oil I've drained out of my 600 and my wifes car, but then as it's a bit leaky it has a self changing oil system anyway so until I get that sorted it seems a waste putting new in. Still going after a few years even of that though. Bike semi, at least the brand we use, seems to be getting cheaper in relation to the same stuff for a car though. There was a time I could save £2 a litre buying car stuff, closer to £1.00 now.

the only time i ever buy semi synthetic/fully is for the car...thats because it asks for it.

The bikes usually get the bog standard havoline 10w40 or opie oils when a deals on for semi stuff
