Hi folks,

I've been doing some cosmetic repair work on my 02 Mille's swingarm with a Sisal polishing mop, to remove scratches.

I'm getting some sort of patches which kind of look like I've polished off a layer of lacquer, but I'm unsure if that's what's happening or not.

Does anybody know for sure how the swingarm on an 02 Mille is finished?

If it is lacquered, any idea how I can achieve an even finish, or do I just need to polish off all the lacquer then re-do it?

Why would you bother to lacquer aluminium anyway though?

Cheers for any help,
Rich

It will be alloy, not aluminium. Some of the metals in the alloy may oxidise when exposed to the air. They may also be incompatible with normal laquer so it's probably anodised. Only way to get it all looking the same would be to polish it all off then paint / powder coat it.

Are you suggesting that it's anodised and lacquered, or just anodised and I've polished through the anodised layer?

I've the same issue with my resto project (all be it a honda) and came to the conclusion it was anodised. The layer was just to thin to be paint or anything likewise. Other forums (400greybike) also came to the same conclusion as me.
