Is it normal for a Bandit 600 to not want to go past 100mph? I wasn't sure if this was just because it was unfaired but noticed it'll get to 100 pretty quick & then will only slightly budge to maybe 105mph. This is on long flat roads & sometimes downwards.
If there is a problem, would it effect overall performance?
What (easy) things should i check first please?

Can't remember what revs but i'm sure it's not been downgeared, but if it had, would it be the rear sprocket with 14+ teeth or the front sprocket? The acceleration/midrange seems about right but then again i haven't ridden a bike since 2007.
Only other bikes are 600 sports.
I'm not very helpful, sorry. |

Well what revs are you at when won't go any faster?, what happens if you drop down a gear? the bandit should easily mange more than 100 in 5th have you tried it?
Can you rev highier than the 100mph rev limit in lower gears? |
I'll have to take it out & report back to you.

I hope it is, i've been having fun on it since i've bought it. Very much doubt it tho, pulls quite nicely & seems to go right round the rev range. |

I would say it is restricted i got a bandit yesterday and restricted it today and got to 100mph easily (private road of course) then it just kinda died lol the washers are in the inlet rubbers that are bolted onto the cylinder. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

Thanks. Edited my post because i realize it was the cylinder head.
So once i've removed the airbox, what do i then need to remove? I remember on my old bike i removed the airbox & behind it was the butterfly flaps. Where do i go from there?

Tank off, air box off, carbs you may be able to leave on, just loosen the clamps on the rubbers between the carbs and head then prise off a little. You should then see 4 little blades with a hole in. Pick them out with a screw driver or pliers etc, then re-assemble and hope it still works |

Hi
If it is an early Bandit then getting the carbs off can be far more difficult than it has any right to be! Unbolt the airbox and undo the clamps from it to the carbs, slide the airbox back as far as it will go. Undo the clamps from the carb rubbers to the carbs and slide them back 10mm or so and then you can slide them off to the side. You need to remove the cables as well, but getting the throttle cable off might be easier once the carbs are dislodged.
Performance sounds about right for being restricted, but not sure about the revs you mention. 600 Bandit red lines at 12k, so doing 100mph at 12k and the same speed at 11k in a lower gear seems strange. 12k in top on a 600 Bandit on stock gearing would be 150mph (and it hasn't got the power for that), and 11k in 5th would be 123mph. However possible that if the clutch is slipping that this could cause the lack of speed and the high revs.
All the best
