Well, the GT550 battery is still alive. Just the bolt broke off as well Rolling Eyes. I can still connect it but only if I physically hold it down. Tried using insulating tape so hold it down and have it connected and while ti worked, every time I hit he starter button it would cut out. Not even time to turn over. So no idea how to bodge it...


But are bike batteries transferable? I've got my Hornet battery which is still alive but it's a sealed type while the GT (Kawasaki) is an unsealed type you fill with acid...


Much danger in using the Hornet battery? Even say for a short time? As I can get a new one bu not till Wednesday and the earlier I can get on the bike the better.

'92 Kawa GT 550, '98 Hornet 600.

Is there really not a way of you holding two bits of metal together?

I know that last week every time I wanted to start my bike I had to physically hold the wire on to the batter so that the starter would work Laughing

Anyway, there must be something stronger than insulation tape. What about cable ties? Razz

Can't use cable ties. The connectors is quite short so I couldn't only use insulating tape. It held it... just didn't seem to work!

And I can start it up but it just dies...

It dies because the connection isn't very strong you think? Clearly you require a soldering iron Wink

Battery type, sealed or not, wont make a difference. The only problem is that is you fit an acid battery where you had a sealed type, you will have to provide a vent pipe for the battery. The only real stumbling block is going to be physical size and wiring polarity orientation.

On the other battery, can you not solder a lump of wire to the broken post and then connect to that?

Will try soldering the battery. If that doesn't work I'll use the Hornet battery.

i just drilled a 2mm hole in the remains of my terminal and fitted a self tapping screw, the terminals go quite a way inside the case so as long as you are careful you should be ok..
did mine ages ago and its still ok
