 |
|
Went for a ride with some mates and parked up in Loomies on the A272 next to a Ducati Desmocedici! Looked stunning, tyres were all blistered. Spent a while trying to guess whose it might be while we were looking at it and then noticed one of the indicators had been knocked and was dangling down
Anyway after a while this old guy with a really red face (as if he'd had too much wine in his life) who'd been sat by the door on his own in battered old looking leathers and helmet wondered over and had a play with the indicator. I was like surely that's not his bike... my mate asked 'Shit, what happened there?' the reply is 'Snapped off', after the blunt reply the guy gets on and fires the bike up. Jesus. That thing is so fucking loud! Exhausts have a beautiful booming note but I hated the sound of the dry clutch! Everyone was looking at the guy at this point as he casually turned the bike around and rode off, ignoring everyone.
Very surreal experience, and a strange and slightly eccentric seeming guy! |

GPZ handled brilliantly to be honest so I wouldn't put it past the bike, plus who cares more about their bike, me on my £500 GPZ or him on a 40K desmo.

Edit: Just want to add that it handled brilliantly considering what it was ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

1500 I think.

Agreed. It is a stupid amount of money to pay for something which you will rarely if ever be able to use to its potential on the road, especially when there are so many uncontrollable variables that could easily wreck your bike and leave you way, way out of pocket. In my eyes it's one of those things which is entirely pointless, personally I would never spend money on that bike for road riding even if I could afford it, but I'll still enjoy looking at it if someone else has decided to.

MCN spout a load of shit about how it's practically a MotoGP bike for the road, as close as you'd ever get. Carbon this, Magnesium that, supposedly 200bhp, but I think it's more like 180 at the wheel. Whether or not the materials are worth the price, the bike itself, as you say, really isn't because of the practicality it doesn't have!
Seems to me like one of those 'do it because you can' moments, and that's the same reason you'd buy one I think, it's not as if you can justify it saying you'll only use it on track because you wouldn't race with it, what class would it fit into? You'd have to do it all on trackdays, and to make it worth it's price you'd probably have to pay it out again in trackdays! |

I recall a test in MCN where they put one up against the fanciest 1198, the £38,000 one with the fancy suspension, carbon everything, basically a WSBK for the road. Turns out the 1198 out handled the desmo and was a half second quicker round the lap.
No one buys a desmo because its actually fast, people buy them for the same reason people get a WRC replica subaru. They think their going to be living the dream of a race bike on the road, and have someone no one else does.
That old guy was probably sick of people gawping at his bike and asking him stupid questions about it |

Scruffy cunt, battered leathers... an hour earlier, he'd pulled up in the petrol station to fill up his club 90 when a bloke in pristine leathers showed up on a spanking desmo, fills up and goes to pay. Dude on the club 90 realises he's left his keys in the ignition and decides it's time for a part ex, jumps on the desmo and fires it up, the real desmo owner hears/see's this, scruffy dude, in a speedy getaway, clips the indicator clean off on a pump. One hour later, he runs out of petrol at Loomies, so he chills out by a door whlist his mate in a white van comes to conceal the evidence.
True story. |
