 Posted: 12:40 - 02 Jun 2010 Post subject: Clutch Plates - Which Order? |
 |
|
Hi
I have a K1 GSX-R 1000, standing at roughly 46,000 miles.
Originally, the clutch was awful and it would slip immediately which I put down to the inherent design issue which was fixed on the K2. I resolved this by buying a wave washer and end friction plate from a K2. This worked perfectly but I still couldn't nail it from the lights so being that it was the original clutch, I knew it would need a entire replacement eventually.
Fast forward today and I have an EBC SRK Series clutch kit sitting on my desk, consisting of Friction discs, Steel discs and new springs. This was supplied direct from Wemoto.
The steel plates were supplied in a package which was nice so I can safely assume they're 'in the right order'. However, the friction discs weren't and as such, I'm not sure if they are in the correct order. There are ten discs, all the same colour and from the naked eye, all seem the same shape & diameter.
So....where do I take it from here? People always harp on about 'having them in the right order' but I can only presume this is the simple friction>>metal>>friction>>metal>>friction order and not in relation to the order, front to back, of the friction plates.
Can anyone advise? Same on the notches on the friction discs...there are three notches on the tabs which stick out....do they all line up or are they staggered in order? Fuck knows....grrr...The workshop manual states a specific order but I can't differentiate between the friction discs as they're all green....not the '8 green' and '2 brown' as the manual details. See attachment.
And if anyone knows the way in which the wave washer fits in, right at the back, then that'd be great too as even though it's in already, I need to validate it whilst the clutch is out.

In the PDF, under the diagram of the plates the NOTES says it is not required that you use the other type plates when replacing the clutch as this is a factory setting - I assume this means that you are ok to use the same type plate throughout hence yours all look the same.
I know nothing about clutches though so I'm sure someone else will have something to add .

Fuck knows mate.
I just jammed it in, any old order as I couldn't measure or tell the difference between any of the friction plates or steel plates. Seems to be working fine thus far.
Thanks all. |

Should be ok. Never done a gixxer thou clutch but on a 'busa there are two thicker plates that go in the middle of the pack. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
