i take it you have a cable from the throttle to the oil pump area?
not sure if its the same as my KH125, but when i twist the throttle it opens the oil passage more and more, i can adjust the amount by turning a screw.[/u]

it has throttle cable that splits and goes to carb and oil. Is the screw on the carb or is it somewhere else on your bike? Thanks for the help. Barney

You can whip off the oil pump cover (three screws, round cover on the right of the engine) and adjust the oil pump easily enough.

When RXS100s smoke a lot, it's usually because the baffle/pipe is full of gunk and needs cleaning out. The oil pump rarely needs to be tinkered with.

It's also possible you could have a sticky choke, which causes similar smoking and inability to rev up.

Ive actually had the baffles out and the exhaust cleaned out with some kind of fire ( my dad did it, i wasn't at home i think it was a spirit of some kind but i will make sure its cleaned right out) Also it doesnt idle atall it has to be held full throttle at 3000RPM and when I had taken the air filter off it would rev through a bit and sometimes idle , does that suggest the mixture being to rich or again is that a symptom of the choke/exhaust. I remember it looking really clean inside that casing(right side oil one) when i had it off yesterday to check, could this have been replaced at some point or are they very clean inside because of being air tight? I think the bikes been off the road for a good 3-5+ years and ive had carb off cleaned that done other bits and bobs but now i think it could be comming to work with some help , much appricated , Barney

before you change the pump,
i would be pulling the head off and cleaning the dome, piston, and ring grooves of carbon,

i know 27cows is against doing regular piston de-coking but its something i do regularly on my smokies,

i would also check the choke, and re-clean your carb, making sure all jets are clear

And most important of all, change the plug. Also ensure the plug cap is screwed tightly into the HT lead and the end of the lead isn't corroded. Give all the ignition components a good spray with WD40 for good measure. And make sure the throttle slide is round the correct way...

or ignore the above and set the mixture screw correctly (NOT the idle screw with a spring behind it). screw it in all the way and back it out 1 and a half turns (i think this is right. been ages since ive set up an rxs carb).

easiest place to start.

Odd I was about to ask a similar question. My RXS has been drinking oil recently and being really smoky, although I haven't noticed any performance decrease. Although it seems to smoke more when stopped sometimes than others...hope it's not something being stuck... Will adjust the oil pump when I have a spare moment, as I've never done it and the previous owner was a slob.

edit: On the subject of sticky chokes, how do you check for it and how do you fix it? Although the bike is idling properly so it's more likely something stuck open on the oil pump or something...

Unless the mixture screw has been tinkered with, that won't be the problem. I haven't touched mine in 50,000 miles or more - there's no need.

I encountered the choke problem on a mate's RXS years ago. The spring had broken and all cocked to one side. The choke appeared to work normally but wasn't closing properly. Only way to be sure it's OK is to try one that you know works...but unscrewing it and a visual inspection should be enough.

The amount a stroker smokes can depend on the weather conditions. Mine smokes like buggery when it's anything but warm. Then again the motor has done an immense mileage Laughing The original motor hardly smoked at all, and used to do about 1000 miles to a litre of 2T Shocked But it lasted well and ran lovely.

Completely failed to even get the cover off...the screws appear to be made of cheese. Will take it down a bike shop this week to see if they can get them out.

Another random question: The main headlight bulb should light up when on Lo-beam right? Mine appears to have stopped doing it but I'm not sure if that's before or after I just had the headlight off in a failed attempt to replace the Oil warning bulb. Probably a knackered bulb? Or do they have one filament?

I presume you have an impact driver. You'll have considerable trouble getting those screws out without one. I replaced virtually every crosshead screw on mine with socket caps. Makes life a lot easier.

The headlight bulb has two filaments. Sounds like you may have wiring issues. The headlight bulbs don't blow often - and I don't think I've ever had an instrument/oil/neutral/indicator bulb blow, ever. Instrument lights failing to work can also be down to worn/dirty ignition switch contacts.

I don't unfortunately, but it's on my list of things to buy in the near future. I'll probably buy some socket caps, as I'm getting seriously fed up of stuck screws and nuts now...

It's probably a wiring problem to be honest. The previous owner did a lot of work on the wiring and I'm not convinced he did it properly. The neutral and high beam lights work so a blown oil bulb seems likely to me.

More likely a poor contact. I have a dodgy indicator warning light that doesn't work for a week...and then comes back again Laughing

An impact driver is probably the most important 'special' tool you can own, with the possible exception of a flywheel puller.
