running on 3 *fixed*

came off my superfour yesterday and it came off a bit worse for wear, my biggest problem is that it now drops to 3 cylinders after 5k rpm, still ticks over fine and rides normally up to 5k.

so far today i have stripped what was left of the clocks, had the carbs off and apart for a clean and to make sure the floats hadn't got stuck and also made sure the tap on the tank was still working correctly, brand new HT leads and plugs cleaned but im still having the same problem.

so i've pretty much done everything i can think of and hope someone here can give me some more ideas and theories?

do coils suffer from hard knocks? is there any way of testing them?

i would usually say its a carby thing but since youve checked that over that is pretty odd.

Have you swapped the coils? does the problem follow the coil?

on a cb400sf, the "derestriction" is in the clocks.
at 5500rpm it takes out 2 cylinders...as happened on brothers exact same bike.

You said you damaged your clocks in another post...have a look in there?

the clocks are completely destroyed and are no longer on the bike. maybe there is something in there that the bike needs to run properly, got new ones on the way so will see when they arrive i suppose.

not every day a bird can be resposible for taking 2 cylinders out, i bet he was like some kind of feathered god back at the nest

The Honda CB1 is just like that.

Japan's 112mph restriction, you could by pass it so as if in the unfortunate event the clock got bashed off my another bird, you will still be able to ride the bike properly

Was it still on 2 cylinders even at tickover?

there is a permanent solution, i believe it involved a wire from cdi though.. cut it, add in a 2k resistor and jobs a good'un.

check out the 400greybike site, they seriously helped me out at times with the SF!

basically its feeding a live wire at +12v to feed the wire that goes to and from the sensr in the clocks to the CDI so the restriction is permanently off.
