erratic idle.

Hi

Well just got in and the bike is hard to start, and the idle is erratic. I stooped at a junction after the erratic idle stalled the bike, and toke lots of kicks to get it going.

Whats next ? or should i do, got some money spear to spend on it, so what should i have done at the dealers ? looking to spend no more then 150.00 on the CG to get right ?

Thousand and one reasons why but its always worth changing the spark plug just in case.

If you up for it then give the carb a clean out.

Try adjusting the idle mixture screw and give the carb a good clean inside.

I adjusted the idle screw but bike still idles abit erratic. the spark plug is new only been in a few weeks but if its a good idea then ill buy a new one.

Plug is unlikely to fail in that amount of time. Carb clean would be the next thing to look at.

What is the bike like when your off idle? Accelerating?

once going, its all good, its just when still. with some of the problems from day one, i am thinking of pooping it eBay and going back to the X9.

when iam having the piston rings done ill have carb cleaned too.

What is the highest and lowest it idles at?
500 ~ 900 rpm ?
900 ~ 1200 rpm??
1200 ~ 1500 ?
How erractic is it?

If it's really low, it could just be the idle is set to low, and it's almost stalling itself.

Is the choke working properly? Not stuck on / off?

Noxious89123 : The choke works fine, and the idle is set at the correct setting, i have even set it bit higher to compensate.

As for RPM the 20yr old CG doesn't have a Rev counter.

Looks like i have got all the answer guys. Clean the carb out and get new piston rings as bike burns oil.

they can fail from day one! Shocked ........ just been doing the finishing touches to an old XS400, and we could not get it to run right for love or money Twisted Evil until we changed the brand new plugs with another set of brand new plugs Confused now it`s one step closer to running right Smile
