RS 50 - TOTALLY CLUELESS

Hello all,
first post and well ...
Little embarrassing I guess considering all of you no doubt have ... healthy sounding motocycles. But till that day I have to make do with a 50 cc !

Anyway.

The problem i have is i have always wanted to get into biking and had my eye on rs 50's for a long while.
I bought my self one off (2007 model ) ebay that had a bit of damage with the plan of doing it up. The majority of the damage was on the left hand fairings and after waitng nearly 3 months for them to come. fitting new battery ect.
It worked a treat took it out for the day it was great,
5 minuites before the end of the day i stopped at a service station to grab some food. when i turned it back on everything started fine when all of a sudden one light when.
This left i think the left front light working. When I turned the full beam switch on the other light worked. somthing it had not all day. I thought nothing of it and made my way home.
The next morning the bike was very reluctant to start taking me 15 mins then bump starting to get it going.
inevitably 15 mins down the road when going downhill the engine went silent and it rolled to a standstill.

now im left with the dilema. it won't start at all.

Battery is fine, new spark plug - tried. new hd and coil( black box thing ).
wont bump start either.

The spark given off is pethetic aswell really really small.

any help greatfully recieved im totally lost

Not that i'm much of an electrical wizz kid or anything but the first thing I would be checking for is a loose earth somewhere

Also with the headlights are you sure the right light isn't just a high beam which is why it wasn't working for the rest of the day?

Double check the HT lead is properly on the spark plug. Although that it's sparking suggests it is on...

Given the lights went aswell, do the 50's have a reg/rec?

Hi

If you have a spark and fuel then that is the basics. So first question is do you have fuel getting to the engine? There are probably a filter or 2 in the system and possible that if the bike has been unused for a while that some water has got into the fuel system (quite often you only find out about this when you switch to reserve).

From memory the RS50 ignition system doesn't put out the brightest spark around anyway.

hi thanks for answers.

tried checking earth on neg on battery still nothing. Iv cleaned everything i can find to clean on the bike still no avail.
everything is secure and no chance of being loose

sadly there is no reserve tank ( I know of !) as such.


getting more and more frustrated with it

TBF it could be the battery not charging, do you know if its dead or not? Could you charge it up?

not patronsing you or anything but have you kept the 2 stroke oil topped and adjusted correctly?

I'm really confused about the lights, are the right/left lights separate? ie. does one do dip beam, and the other comes on for full beam?

When you turn the ignition on, do the lights work?
