Hi, this is my second post now but with a new problem.
Hope any of you guys can help?

So, I went away for a few days and my bike was left at home. When I came back to start it for work it wouldn't turn over.
All I got was a clicking noise from the solenoid. I spent two hours taking the bike apart and got the starter motor out. I gave it a good clean. Put it all back together and still only clicking.

What I would like advice on is do you think its still something to do with the starter or solenoid?

I measured across the battery and it read 13.3amps so this is enough for the starter.

Tried to read at the point of the starter motor and started the ignition. But wouldn't read anything.

Do I need a new starter motor? Solenoid? or all of the above?

Can't wait for your reply's as im really stumped!

Thanks

Jon

Try tapping the starter motor with a hammer to see if its simply got stuck.

Or you could take it off and then wire it up to see if it turns.

My money is on its simply got stuck Thumbs Up

Have you actually charged the battery?

It sounds very much like a flat battery.

If it isn't, the solenoid's not broken since you can hear it clicking so the fault must lie with the starter motor......

depending on what type of solenoid you have either put a spanner across the terminals or take the leads off & touch them together

if the motor spins when you do this then the solenoid is shot, if it doesn't spin then the starter is at fault

Hi

The effect does sound just like the battery is wrecked. The reading over the battery should be a touch over 12V with the engine off (NOT amps).

All the solenoid does is connect power directly from the battery to the starter motor. As such you can easily bypass it with a jump lead. If the bike starts doing that then you know the solenoid is dead.

All the best

Keith

Hi, thanks for all the reply's.

Ok, so I jumped the relay and the starter motor spun.

Bought a new relay and the starter motor worked. BUT....

The bike wont actually fire up. Read the battery and its only giving out 11.6 V . So I have it on charge as i write this.

I will let you know of the outcome.

Thanks again for all the helpful advice.

Hi

Take the plug out. With it in the plug cap with the end of the spark plug held against the engine (and metal part of the engine) crank the engine over. You should see the spark.

Note that if the plug cap is knackered you might get a shock from it when cranking the engine over.

All the best

Keith
