Holts Tyre Weld Or Tyre Slime?

Which one would you go for? Ive heard the slime can cause balancing problems but would be better than the tyre weld as its a prevention not a cure. Has anyone got any experience of either of these?

I've never used the slime but like the idea.

I've previously run the rear tyres of both my old scooter and my KLE 500 for hundreds of miles on Tyre Weld after suffering punctures/flats.

I went up to motorway speeds on the KLE (which has tubed tyres so slightly different case to normal sportsbike tyres) with no ill effects.

The scooter's tyre was over inflated and thus rock hard, but again served its purpose until it was nicked - I hope the back-breakingly hard suspension squashes their nuts and makes them sterile!

My only concern with the slime is that you wouldn't know when your tyre has been compromised.

If you carry a tin of Weld around with you, when you get a puncture you can find and assess the damage to the tyre and make a judgement about whether it's safe to re-fill and use.

I've used tyre weld before on my quad bike (suzuki LT250) which I only ever used in old quarries etc. Never had to replace the tyre despite it taking serious punishment every weekend! Tyre weld gets the from me.

Cant comment on slime though.

Been using tyre-weld in a rear tyre on my Audi for approx 6 months / 8000 miles now. Gets my vote.

used the slime on the back tyre of my hornet after a bad puncture repair from the garage, worked a charm.

Also used it for my mates sc front tyre after he got a screw put in it leaving a significant puncture, again it worked as advertised. I recommend it.

I hear bad things about the slime from tyre fitters. Plus as has been said you would never know if you had a puncture

I used the Tyre-Weald Once, worked perfectly, it said take it easy but i was comfortable caining it for the next few days...

I use Puncturesafe/Ultraseal not Tyre weld.
Tyre fitter hate cleaning out tyre and rims that have sealant in them. But they should clean out the tyre and rim to repair or refit anyway. I would not complain if someone wants to pay me to change tyre I will do it happily.
You will know if you have a puncture when ultraseal/puncturesafe sealant is in the tyre as some will ooze out before plugging the leak much the same as a cut finger does. It will be seen on the tyre at the hole/s and possibly on the hugger or under the seat even if you've been riding in the rain.
It is a permanent repair.

I don't think sealant charged tyres would survive a law enforcement imobilizer such as 'The Stinger' the compound is designed to accomodate holes up to 1/4" and I think the stinger spikes are bigger than that.
Possibly the stinger also shreds the tyre too.

The good - I used Slime on an already punctured tyre wtih the initial idea of getting to a tyre fitters and having it repaired properly..... As often happens I never got around to it and ended up doing 4k on the slime repair with no ill effects, loss of pressure or balance issues.

The bad - Apparently the slime causes the wheel to fur a bit. When I had the replacement tyre fitted the fitter cleaned up the wheel and put the new tyre on, but I found it flat a couple of weeks later. I took it back and he removed and re fitted it after fettling the wheel again, which had started to fur. Exactly the same happened a couple of months later too. To be fair I've had no problems since though.
