 Posted: 14:35 - 09 Jun 2010 Post subject: Turkish old style CG125 copy questions! |
 |
|
I've got a Mondial 125UAG, which is basically a Turkish copy of the 80s Honda CG, and is still in production here...
A few questions;
1. What should the tyre pressures be?
2. Were the drum brakes really that crap on the original?! (My dad had one, but never heard him complain-probably he didn't know any better!)
3. It has a habit of backfiring embarrassingly on the overrun- is this just excess fuel or can I adjust summat? There's just been a multiple shooting in town(welcome to the wild west!) and I don't want the trigger happy rozzers getting nervous!
4. How often should I change the oil? It gets quite hot here, and there're a lot of hilly bits. I've just done a change after about 2000km as it was looking black, but I just wondered how often the recommended frequency was back then?
Otherwise it's a good little runaround and is ideal for nipping around town here in the styx |

Rear drum brake is OK, but front drum brakes
Does sound like the mixture needs to be adjusted slightly, that should stop the back firing.
2000km seems low to me, I would have thought about 4000 miles between oil changes. But it is up to you, if you want to change sooner it wont harm it ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

It's CDI, so don't really know what to play with!
Almost exactly the same as the old CG, with the addition of leccy start and the CDI ignition. They're two a penny here, and spare parts sooo cheap Just put on a new exhaust for the equivalent of 30€ including fitting and that was not the local price either! If I'd sent one of our crew round with it it'd have been even cheaper, but I couldn't be arsed.
Which is the mixture screw? I adjusted the tickover with a screw, but it could just as well have been the mixture
I certainly noticed the oil change- gear change is much easier and it runs quieter. With me on it(I'm not wot you'd call slim ) and the hills as well, I think it's working quite hard, then add on our touring about with the missus on the back, then I think 2000km is reasonable!
Anyway, thanks everyone for the prompt replies!
PS; Just attached a front view... |

It had new shoes when I bought it! Think they're just full of erm, character. Just like a C90 really, but then so's the top speed |

Or two up, 29 on the front, 32 on the back
Hehe, i have a '77 cg.. i've never had anything other then drums.. dont know any different all i can suggest is a milkmans grip!
Wouldnt mind one of those rear racks.. canny find em, none have the right fittings
Oil changes sound about right.. mine tends to get black after a while, but its a cg engine so should run for yonks!

Here's their website; https://www.mondialmotorcycle.com/
You may recognise some other models too! There's also a brief history of the company soemwhere on the site.
I briefly had use of one of these;
[img]https://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/621andy/DSCN8646a.jpg
also a Mondial product, but previous pilots here have ramped it so much that it can barely pull itself along, let alone someone my size
Thanks for the info everyone. I'll have a play later. The new exhaust was partly to try and cure the backfiring and the seal is very good, so I suspect the problem is mixture or the mysterious 'air cut off valve'
As to racks, you'd probably pay about 10€ for one here! I've got a top box on mine now that I paid 20€ for.
Oh and yes, they're 12 volt.[/img] |
