hi been on the forum a while after having my sr125 which kept going wrong, including blowing it up and then all the bushes went again so back end was all over the place

https://img229.imageshack.us/img229/329/kcsalbum064.jpg

then i got read of the bike as it was too much trouble and carried on with my vauxhall nova project (gte rep high spec 1400 16v track car)

https://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9831/0001515.jpg

i decided to break it in the end as it was going to cost me another 2k ish to get it how i wanted it, and would of ended up blasting 3.5k into a 1400 nova =/ and around £3000 to insure it with everything declared, so looked into bikes vfr400 nc30 and insurance is only £434 a year, not sure i like the noise of the v4, so im tempted by a kawasaki zxr400 (?) my bike test (a2 as im just turned 19) so will have to be restricted and looking to spend around £1000 on a bike, anyone suggest any nice 400 sports bikes, i looked into 600's but insurers wont touch me and thats a little bit big for me

You won't get a "good" 400 for £1k.

Get a naked 600, like a Hornet/Bandit etc. They are the same insurance group IIRC, the SV650 is lower insurnace group than a sports 400.

Ignore all these cynics mate.

There are a few good zxr400's out there for a grand, but spend another 5ton and you will get a blinder.

I bought a zxr400 as my 1st big bike and absolutely loved it. They are loud, screaming lairy bastards and awesome for getting the feel of a supersports.

take your time, ask on the zxr forums (zxrworld) and you will be soon be hooning about the place on a cracking little bike.

I picked up a CB400 super four for £850 2 months back and done 2000+ miles already and love it.

I use to own a 600cc and while is isnt as nearly powerful is just enough power to be fun (esp on the country lanes!) and is cheaper to tax, insure and run.

Hard to come by a nice one but great ride Thumbs Up [/img]

If you are only using it to go downhill then why not just get a 125cc? Wink

going with what I know here, but the older CBR4's can be had for not alot of money, picked my '89 NC23 up for £700 with just under 19000km on the clock, a years ticket, new battery and new fork seals. It hasn't needed much to get it close to spot on, one handle bar and some bar ends, a speedo cable and some service items.

It'll do around 55-60mpg (have had over 70mpg on a run at a steady 70-80mph) most spares are available, the front plastics are one of the trickier things to find though. 18in rear wheel means tyres are slightly more awkward to get hold of than the NC29 that replaced it (you can still get good tyres like BT090's in the right size)

not sure what else to mention, but any questions, just ask Thumbs Up
