I'm looking for a website that lists bike reviews; Not new bike tests, but something written by real people and featuring older bikes.

It's a nightmare trolling the 'net, as you can find the odd bit of info here and there, but there doesn't appear to be anything that comprehensively lists bikes by make/type and/or year.

Something like carsurvey.org(and yes I know they've started a bike one, but it's not exactly full of entries!) would be very useful I think.

Any ideas?

Best bet is to ask on a forum, as you will get multiple views from different people.

Usual parameters for google search will turn up most 'popular' info.

Punch in : Make, Model, Year of bike
followed by : spec, review, owners etc.
will bring up most relevant stuff.
The Internet is crammed full of shite (and shiteheads) and there are no shortcuts to glory is seems. Smile

MCN has a database and some of the bikes are fairly old but there's not much pre 1990.

There are various places as mentioned - the problem is that 'real people', especially with bikes it seems, tend to be overly biased towards their current bike.
Some for logical reasons - I chose bikes that were likely to best suit me from research in most cases (well, some cases) - however often less logicial reasons, like they've spent thousands of pounds on it and can't admit to themselves they've bought a lemon!

Sounds perfect for me then Wink

Yeah, I've had a look at the MCN site, and it's quite good for what it is, but there're a lot of bikes 'missing'

There's a lot of info on here too, but nothing in one place(maybe we should have a new section Wink) -been here 5 minutes and already want to change it all Laughing

I understand the comments about people not wanting to admit they've bought a lemon, but carsurvey seems to be in general, fairly honest, and anyway, when someone has sold a bike/car they seem to be less reticent to talk about it's faults/foibles!

Basically, it'd be good to have somewhere you could look up different models and see what their problem areas are, saddle height, dimensions/spec etc, and maybe grouped into classes of bike...

Maybe I should just start my own web page Wink

I've always found UBG to have some good snippets of info. Not so many full reviews, but certainly good to get one more perspective on a bike.

Bikes tend to be bought more as items of love than function.

The problem on here has always been content - not enough people willing to put enough time in to create decent content.

This sort of thing has been discsused since the site was started - and since the first attempt floundered on it's feet, the general comments from me at least has been "I'll make an effort to get new sections etc added if other people first make a decent effort with content to fill them" - so far no one has done enough to justify more than 'Show & tel' - even in the index thread there isn't well updated.

I have had thoughts along similar lines to what you describe, but these things all need a lot of work to be made to work well.

This.

Your use of 'glory' triggered a view events in my life involving holes in toilets. But one time - not involving a toilet - an old tramp shouted 'death and glory!' at me when I was in Princes Street Gardens. He chased after me when I shouted 'for victory!' back at him.

*sigh* happy days
