r.i.p paul dobbs and martin loicht have died competing in a sport they are passionate about.

RIP lads.

I've just got back from the IOM and the 'Quarry bends' are one of my favourite parts of the course. Rather die doing something I love than old and crippled in bed.

It's a pity to loose out on loads of madness before you get sent to hell for being such a bad boy though. Sad

Nothing to stop you buying a bike when you're old and crippled for one last blast down a favourite 'A' road. Smile

Anyone who understand the life we lead understands that we all, road or race, know the risks we run and accept them it's those outside who throw up their hands in horror and go on about terrible death tolls. We just mourn our downed comrades and carry on because we know death comes to us all and it's how you face that which matters most.

I have not read such crock in a long time.

- In general we tend to ignore (not accept) the risks, and we certainly choose to ignore the impact of such risks on our loved ones (eg: children struggling for years to get over the death of a parent).
The evidence for this is the riders that do have a life challenging crash, and often then slow down or give up.

Yeah, I know exactly how I am likely to be facing any dying moment that lasts over 5 seconds.
It will be by shitting and wetting myself , crying in pain , choking and gasping for life, and more than likely praying to a god that I have ignored for the past few decades.

Apart from that, I agree with everything you have written.
ie: given the above, we then mourn and pay respects to fellow riders and continue to ride.

Who is this "we" of whom you talk?

There are plenty of riders for whom the danger of riding is an integral part of the experience, fulfilling as it does a particular need of their ego. Yes, there are those for whom the experience is a purely internal one, but I would suggest they are in a minority. To think that most riders "ignore" the risks is, in my opinion, pretty asinine. Do you truly believe riders, in general, are ignorant of the consequences of an off, are able to ignore thoughts of them?

Rather more obvious that, being aware of them, they accept them. Which is what sets bikers apart from mere mortals, as with any human being that deliberately faces extreme danger as part of both a mindset and expression of physical will.

Local news update on Conor and Guy:

Guy Martin expected to be discharged from hospital soon.

Conor Cummins is in good spirits but is to be transferred to the UK for specialist treatment on his injuries.
