Try taking it to obedience classes and so on first.
Killing a dog is a harsh move if your mum loves it so much etc.
Give the thing a chance and get it to some obedience classes and see how it gets on, then take it from there.

Getting an animal put down is really a last resort thing, just out of interest how old is the dog ???? as if it young there is a good chance taking to to some classes would help, also having it castrated (sorry guys) can often calm an animal down.
Going to a vet or phoning R.S.P.C.A would be able to offer you advice on what the possible next step would be.
Good luck |

I can't believe this post.
How inconvenient of it to have bitten you. Go and put some dettol on your capaciously bleeding wounds.
Its a Jack Russell, ffs. They ARE highly strung and they DO bark a lot.
But its hardly a rotty or a bull terrier.
It could probably do with some stringent re-training, perhaps, prior to sending it down. It may well have been allowed to be spoilt, if it only lives with your mum. Dogs have a very decisive way of determining pack order, and obviously it has been led to think you are "below" it in the pack.
But put it down?
*tuts, walks off before she gets too mad and loses all concept of improving karma*
Note I did NOT swear in this post.
But I have been VERY tempted.

If the bites really ARE that bad, then you perhaps ought to go have a tetanus injection.
Ask your mother how to pronounce that, if you have trouble.
The vet will know....

We're not all little kiddies you know... and I would say that was a mite patronising! |
Horrendously OFF topic
At the present time, karma is the least of my concerns. It took all my effort to NOT swear and fire it off anyway.
Besides, I have such merde karma at present that it won't let me post short sentences*
(which is often my preferred manner of posting, short and to the point) (but I also like to waffle as well, LOL) ... so I had to fill the post up with more words. Its unfortunate that they turned out a little patronising, it happens to be as useful a method of expressing my distaste for the subject in question as any.
Unfortunately, its the way I am. Regardless of having been recently banned and reinstated, when I see such blatant thoughtlessness, I have to speak out. And usually quite strongly. Might as well make the most of it before my karma returns to four red squares
*But no doubt you haven't experienced that disadvantage of negative karma, having such excellent karma yourself ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

(return to on-topic mode)
Roo-roo, its likely that the dog considers you a lower dog within its own echelon. It may have also considered the object that it had taken "its" article, and not "yours".
Your superiority in the pack mentality needs to be reasserted, regardless of whether the obedience classes gave it gold stars or not. But it might be too late, if its an older dog
The point MarJay made about growling and staring it out will start to reaffirm your superiority, but it MAY make the dog anxious and if it already believes you are a lesser dog, it MAY cause the dog to "shape up" to you, causing further conflict (you might get bitten on the nose next time).
But give it a try.
Its worth remembering that if you ARE going to discipline an already unruly dog, you can't really do it by getting to its own level. You need to stand ABOVE the dog and discipline it. If you are on the floor glaring and growling at it, you are at the same level, and therefore risking an attempt by the dog of its own status-renewal.
Good luck.
A visit to the library or onto a couple of websites for information on dog-whispering behaviour training might be in order (sounds crazy, I know, but its working for mine). ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Trust me on this HK is talking sense, and also talking as an animal lover.
Having a dog put down just because you and it have fallen out is NOT a reason. I think that if you have watched todays news the RSPCA have got some good guidelines put through parliment.
How old is the dog, and what is it like with other people???
My parents had a dog that we had to have put down (RIP Sam), he was a wonderful dog for many years and I grew up with him from being a puppy. When he was 11 he went almost totally blind, and the vet said a little senile (half Border Collie with a decaying brain) . At the same time I went away to college and came back for the holidays, he didn't recognise my voice or smell = I was a stranger in the house until he got to know me after a while. He was a serious danger to me for the first few days!
I wouldn't let them do anything to him.
A few weeks later he started turning on strangers in the street, better that we made the decision than the courts.
Have a good look at the dog AND your lifestyles then think long and hard about it.

Bingo, possesive reaction. Dog could hardly be blamed.
Been round dogs all my life (dated a few, but that's a different story, get me drunk sometime ), worst one was my gran's doberman. Beautiful animal, but had attitude as he was the runt of the litter, and therefore had to fight for food etc.
Now, he knew me, loved me, and respected me as being higher in the pack, never had problems with him (strangers were a different story, very good guard dog), but one time I got too close as he was chewing on a bone, so he warned me.
He snapped at my boot, clever bugger realised he couldn't hurt me, and jumped up and snapped on me arm. One warning to say, you are intruding on what is mine. He then realised what he had done, and bolted into the kitchen. Very quickly I went and faced him down (I did not hit him or anything like that), and made sure he knew he had stepped out of line with a higher pack member.
We both learned from that day, him not to cross me, and me to give him a bit of room with his food.
