Hey i know this maybe a bit of a silly question, but as i hear it all the time on London News, can anybody explain to me what exactly is the Blackwall tunnel tidal flow and why is it so important. I see so many bikers use that tunnel.

Cheers

Haven't a clue what that is. I assume is a slang term for the heavy flow of traffic North in the morning and South in the evening. Confused

The Blackwall tunnel is actually two tunnels. and there are two lanes in each tunnel. A total of four lanes. One tunnel (two lanes) is normally used for Northbound traffic and one for Southbound.

However during peak times, they can introduce a tidal flow whereby only one lane of one tunnel is used in a particular direction and the other three lanes (one and a half tunnels!) in the other.

Smile
