Looked on the AJS website and it say's it's a 4T but the guy i bought it off is certain it's a 2T.
It's got a small canister under the radiator where he's been pouring 2T oil into it Shocked so if a stroker what is it? It certainly doesn't sound like a stroker!
Anyone know anything about them can shed some light on this?

Some pics:

I bought it for the sake of buying it as it was only £100 which i thought was a bargain for a 2007 bike! although it's sat unused in a garage for nearly a year and i don't think it's ever been washed Laughing

Cheers
Dave

So what's this canister for then? 2 rubber pipes come out of the canister and go into what looks like a fuel pump (obviously it's not) the out of that and into the inlet rubbers exactly as you'd expect from a 2T as the oil feed?

Maybe canister is the wrong word,it looks like a oil tank.

Is that not the coolant catch tank. You really don't want to be putting 2 stroke oil in that.

Nope,it doesn't look connected in any way.It is connected to the inlet manifold/rubbers though so i doubt it would be water.

I don't understand what else it could be for if it's not a 2t! Why else would it be connected to the inlet?
Might have to give ajs a ring on monday and ask them.I really can't wait to go for a ride on it (just for a laugh Cool ) but until i know what this oil situation is it's a no go Crying or Very sad

Can you not fire it up and listen to the exhaust note? 2t are definately different to 4t when it comes to sound.

It's a dry sump with an external oil tank if I'm not mistaken, definitely not a 2 stroke.

Looks like a 4T.

But to confirm, take that silver cover off the top of the engine. Any valves in there and its a 4T...

As to the tank, as someone else said is it a dry sump on the bike ? Again easy to check is there a cap on the top of the engine to pour oil into with a dipstick on it, or a sight glass near the bottom of hte engine ?

It looks like air cooled engine to me, but it may be just a look of air cooled engine haha.

Carburettor not Fuel Injection. Only by looking at the exhaust pipe I can say it's a 4 stroke.

EDIT: I just noticed a radiator.. it's liquid cooled engine after all Embarassed

It did cross my mind but then I thought 'No, never on a Chinese 4 stroke'.

Snowtigeress had the AJS Regal Raptor DD125E-god-knows-what suffix went on for ever, probaby an abreviation for some chinese hyroglyph! 2005 model.
Basically, Chinese clone of the old Honda 125 4T twin in single carb CM 'custom' spec... and woe-fully under-powered and over-weight.
Checked specs on it & it was heavier than a Moto-Guzzi V50! And topped out at an indicated 55mph!
I dont recall there being any expansion tank kind of thing.
It was definitely air cooled and wet-sumped.
Well, I SAY wet sumped....
'sponge-sumped' perhaps! It was a total loss system... GAWD knows where it went.... but it DID!
Never an oil stain under-neath it to belie a leak or pourus casing.
Plugs never oiled up and it didn't blue-smog on start up, or anything either.... Remained a mystery until the day it was nicked.
Motor in that doesn't look QUITE the same.
THAT looks suspiciousely water-cooled!
Whats between the down-tubes infront of the engine?
Looks rather like a radiator to me....
In which case the 'tank' your putting two-stroke oil in COULD be the expansion tank!

Took it all apart today and it definately is a 4T. The small tank which was full of 2T oil is the expansion tank for the radiator Laughing

So it's a wet sump water cooled 4t Embarassed I was fairly sure it was a 4t but the bloke i bought it off had me doubting myself Laughing .
All sorted out now anyway. All that's left to do is buy new/bodge old inlet manifold rubbers as they have a split in them then take it for an mot Very Happy

I doubt i'll be keeping it for long but it'll be a laugh.Online specs get it at 11bhp and 180kilo Shocked It dwarfs the 535 virago (bought from the same bloke) and it's about 8ft long Laughing

Anyway, cheers for the reply's Thumbs Up

Dave
