Hi All,

we appear to have a leaky water pump 'O' ring on my girlfriend's vfr400, we went into the garage and noticed oil on the floor so we cleaned it all down and degreased the bottom of the enginer to see where it was comign from and it appears to be just weaping from the water pump 'O' ring where it enters. It doesnt appear to be much but we are going to replace it anyway, however does anyone know if this is a common problem?

Cheers,

Matt

Not heard of this being a common problem but it is an easy fix.

First make sure that the oil is coming from between the water pump and engine, if it is then you need to replace the o-ring.

There is also a little tell-tale hole on the water pump that oil will come out of if the shaft seal is leaking, if this is the problem then you might have to get a new water pump as I cant find it on the parts list (it probably comes as a unit Rolling Eyes ).

To replace the 0-ring you might not even have to remove the hoses (and be able to keep the coolant in) and only have to take off a few hose clips. Just undo the bolts that secure the housing to the engine and the water pump should pull straight out, it is driven by a slotted shaft. It will become very apparent how it all works when you take it apart.

Part number O ring 32.95x2.62 (ally) - 91302-MB0-013

Hope that helps

Thats great thank you for that!

I noticed the tell tale hole you are on about, when you say the shaft seal i assume you mean the spinning shaft within the water pump itself?

Im pretty sure its coming from the main O ring from the ways it collecting around the pump where it enters the engine.

Thanks again for your advice.

Cheers,

Matt

Sorry one last question...

The drive chain actually snapped on saturday while riding, any recommendations on a replacement? It would be a standard 525 pitch chain.

Cheers again,

Matt
