i own a Suzuki Gp 125cc 1983.

this for me is the best bike ive ever had is a total beast! the petrol lasts forever! oil is ok and everything else is fine, im getting my licence in august is my final mod 2 test so im definetly keeping this bike for a little while longer Wink

problem now:

sinse 1 week as soon as i rev the bike or go more than 50 mph max speed is 70.

is giving me some serious problems the problem is that it vibrates sooooo much! and sounds completely different then it did before before it was smooth and nice and at 70 mph i would never even feel a shake or a little vibration. now it does soooo much vibration which i seriously cant even put my legs in the stand to even change gear or apply the back brake is killing me!! after that the rev meter went the spring that gives me the revs broke!!! so i replaced that but the problem with the vibration is getting worse and worse!


please help me please!!!!

Sounds like it's due an overhaul. How many miles on it since the last rebuild?

hi guys thanks for the reply.


i checked the bars in the bottom and theyre all nice and very tight!

there was no engine rebuilt the bike is only done 20k miles from new

Yes it sounds like it's rebuild time. If you're lucky it might just need mains and a top-end refresh. If it's got very bad in a short time, then it hasn't long to live.

yeah i have heard many people telling me the 2 cranks that it has in there might be damaged!

but its my fault too i keep ramming it and give in it large! this clasic bike shouldnt have to put up with the fucked up things i make it do!!!

Usual questions:

Are you putting two stroke in the right place? This is the oil bottle, not the crankcase.

Are you using 2-stroke oil?

Did you let it run out before refilling?

GPs are prone to main bearing failure. I would suspect those in this case. With the engine cold, remove your flywheel cover, grab hold of the flywheel and see if there's any up and down movement. If there is, your mains are shot and that is the problem.

If your bike has two cranks, that may be your problem.

Either that or the anemic big ends let go and knock like a shithouse door. Usually without warning.


Had the commuter version of the X5, the SB200, do its mains and a big end simultaneously. Fuck knows how how, it had about as much power as a C90. It had only done about 15,000 miles too, mostly in the hands of some old boy.

Sounds like new engine time. You should get one from a brakers cheaper than a rebuild.

not if the engine youve bought is just as fucked as the one in there already.


Fair enough but everytime i have bought one i got a three month guarantee. Plenty time to put it in ant try it out.

If the bike is still doing 70(I presume the bike is still doing 70) Then couldn't it be something stupid like wheel bearings on the way out. Just a stab in the dark really.

I've had quite a few old Suzuki strokers apart. I think the problem is inadequate lubrication. They can run fine for ages and then major components suddenly fail. Could never rely on a Suzuki stroker, the GT500 excepted.

My GT250 had oil-pipes like spaghetti running all over it - the mains were directly fed from the oil pump - and they still went!
