Right, tried to set my valve clearences today on my CBR125, got the line of the cam sprocket parallel to the head as in DEPs picture, but no T mark on the timing wheel. When i rotate the engine and get the T mark in the timing window, the sprocket is a few degrees out, meaning i cant get TDC in order to set the valves.

Also, when i took the inspection cap off the engine, there was some white gunky sh*t all on the inside of it, what would cause this? Water in the engine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Carlos.

What was the colour of the gunky shit?

Get the bottom to near the T mark, it's just an indicator and isn't 100% accurate. What matters is the positioning of the cams as thats what your working with so just get them in the right position. Make sure that you don't get them 180 degrees out. Check the cam profiles and positioning so that you can see that all valves would be closed and you're good to go.

Timing is only critical once it comes to putting it all back together Wink

The engine is still in the bike, how could i tell that the cam is in the right position?

Someone said something about putting a screwdriver in the spark plug hole but not too sure about the method.

Thanks.

Carlos

EDIT: The gunky shit was a white/light grey colour and was only found on the timing cap.

Might be grease as you are meant to grease the o-ring that's on the cap, or perhaps the whole cap was greased to aid subsequent removal? Or it might be emulsion from the oil, especially if you've ridden lots of short journeys.

Just don't.

You may end up with the valves hitting your screw driver and causing a problem.

I dont think you can get the cam timing wrong on this model as the cam will only only bolt on one way, Op is your engine the Euro engine (sohc) or the 150cc derived variant (dohc)?

The CBR125 was / is only made with a SOHC engine. Only the 150 has a DOHC motor.
