 |

Hi Guys
I'm wanting to double check the connections of my pipes to the carb, but as one pipe is missing, I want to make sure its nothing serious.
I have put it down as being so far as the picture says, to which I believe what is what.
Can anyone confirm the same?
1. Oil pipe (quite far back and has a needle inside when you open the throttle and look down the bore, which finishes centrally in the bore0
2. don't know
3. Fuel Pipe (def is as petrol pours out)
4. drain tube ( i think so)
5. Overflow tube ( is it?!)

Ok Judging by my RD350 carb which is a Mikuni VM 28 (yours looks like a Mikuni, but I might be wrong) then the numbers are as follows:
1) It is difficult to see but looks like an oil feed pipe.
2) Looks like a vacuum choke pipe
3) Fuel pipe
4) Looks like another oil feed, but its on the bottom of the float chamber so I'm not sure
5) Definitely an overflow.
1 and 2 might be the wrong way around as it isn't identical to my bikes carb... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

I gave number 2 a good pull, It's defiantly connected to something.

Looks quite red? I have no idea what it could be, being red it makes me think 2stroke is passing through it but what do I know.
I know you said you looked in your haynes manual but I tried to find mine to see if you missed anything sadly I can't find the bugger, I'll keep searching and update if I find anything. ____________________ Current bike : Suzuki GP 125 1982 |

Found on this site.
Altho i dont see how its correct.
Where you have the fuel hose seems correct. Im guessing its a VM type mikuni carb as used on many suzuki's?
Im swaying towards the nipple with nothing attached being a 2stroke feed for some reason. It seems the most logical.
Only way your really gonna tell is if you trace the pipes back.
Is the 2stroke fed into the inlet port via a pump on this bike? (between engine and carb) As that would make sense if the thin black tube runs down behind the carb. (thats how its setup on my GT250 anyhoo) ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

I might get some slack for this, but have you tried starting it up and seeing if anything leaks from where the little black pipe comes down? I'd take a general guess and say if nothing is leaking down then surely it's nothing to worry about.
Also before taking those pictures earlier I had ridden the bike for about an hour yet the tube looks like it hasn't seen a drop of liquid in it for it's lifetime.
Took a new picture.
https://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y189/Ragnaco/2010-07-13144431.jpg
1. 2stroke out pipe (to carb so number 1 the little black pipe is correct)
2. 2stroke oil pump
3. 2stroke oil in.
Also note the big pipe from the air filter box, the tube number 2 basicly heads up in that direction... so now I have no idea.
So to recap
1. Oil pipe (yes)
2. Still unsure! (It's going somewhere to the airbox, breather?)
3. Fuel Pipe (yes)
4. drain tube ( yes it is)
5. Overflow tube confirmed by Marjay (yes)
On a different note can I see some pictures of the bike? ____________________ Current bike : Suzuki GP 125 1982 |

I know what it is I think.
Could it be a vacuum feed for a vacuum operated fuel tap??? ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

I gave a good yank with reasonable force and it did not come free, Did not want to chance unhooking it from anything and not being able to get it back on might just be the fact the tube is so old and rotten that it's turned into solid plastic but Iv had the carb out several times before and that tube stays hanging in place.
I'm pretty sure it's nothing important if it's going up into the airbox like it looks like it can't be doing anything that important.
I have a set of alloys for this bike, never been bothered to clean them up and put them on though Id feel like a right prick riding my rust-bucket around with alloys on anyway, It's bad enough riding with my knees up around my ears. ____________________ Current bike : Suzuki GP 125 1982 |

well i had to take off my alloy and give it a good spanking clean and strip off the black flaking paint, still got some tight area which i will nitromors later once it passes the MoT - its been laid up for 7 years! I have a wire wheel on the front and a alloy on the rear - stupid me thinks - so i bought a gs125 front alloy for 20 quid with disc of the same size. Just got to get it fitted, but me thinks it won't be a stright swap and may have to change the bearings and spacer tube to suit.
Anyway about the carb, its just that when the bike runs, there is just no power above 1/3 throttle. Any higher than 1/3 throttle and the engine just dies. I know me thinks the carb is just so bloody gummed up, me thinks the main jet is blocked. So its just running on the pilot jet. Got some carb cleaner which i trying spraying stright into the bore and down the fuel connection. I just don't want to take the carb apart - I have stripped carbs before and its alot of work and then finding a gasket to replace the old one.
All this was as I took it to the MoT it basically had no power but sounds fine when ticking over. I had to push it home up the hill with a bit of leg pushing and loads of smoke! lol |
