I bought it before I passed my test in March, from a dealer as I wanted a 400 sportsbike but couldn't find many locally. 2 weeks after I bought it a mint zxr400 came up locally for 400 pound less lol, but I like the NC either way.
1992
20000 miles ish
This is how I got it:

The right hand lower fairing was (can't really see in pic) cracked and ground down. But I road around on it then dropped it and really cracked the lower fairing, so went to halfords and got some black gloss spray paint, and bought a honda sticker from ebay for a CRV 4x4.
All sprayed up it looks good.
Also got a tinted double bubble screen but that cracked when I dropped it so I got a shoddy clear screen and sprayed it black.

Looked a bit naff so I fixed the double bubble and put it on.
Also:
-kph to mph converter to de-restrict top speed
-Down one tooth on the front sprocket, redline in 6th is 130mph, so lost about 5mph top speed but is worth it.
-Sprayed and fixed the bar ends, mirrors, exhaust guard.
-New viper exhaust
-Some stickers to cover a crack in the fairing where the HRC one is, but put more on so it didn't look out of place.
-8x6 plate as the other one was getting burned from my exhaust
-Levers but they didn't fit so sent them back
-Set up suspension for my weight.
-rear sets but they didn't fit so got my money back, and ebay guy said I could keep them anyway so stuck the pegs and levers on the bike
Mainly cosmetic tat to be honest, but the engines are a fanny to tune.
I have a seat cowl that need painting and stickered to put on also. It will be black with red stipes to match what you can see.
Hope to get soon:
-Braided lines as the originals are from 1992 and bulge badly and make braking a bit unpredictable.
-Proper rear sets
-Suspension refurbed/revalved etc
-Possible new tyres but the Macadam 100x seem alright, they might get a bit of a bad press but I have had not problems with them.
-Wheels powder coated.
-Set up on a friends dyno

Planning for this and next week:
Fit my braided lines and change brake fluid front and rear, do tomorrow.
Full service, already done all the little jobs for it in the haynes, now the oil change, spark plugs (40 quid for 4!) etc needs doing.
Full carb clean and mod, clean etc, rejet, drill slides, raise needles.
Front fork rebuild, new springs, new oil, spacers etc.
Send away the shock for a rebuild, and fit rear jack up kit, but this might have to wait as it means having it off the road a while.
Seat cowl is away to be painted black, will fit and sticker when it is done.
Will post as and when I do it. |

Cosmetically i much preferred it as standard, far too many stickers on it now.

Careful with those plugs, they are only little so easily cross threaded, and fixing a fucked head is a nightmare. Make sure you turn them in gently by hand as far as you can before getting the wrench to them.
Full carb clean and mod, clean etc, rejet, drill slides, raise needles. I think i ran 120 & 118 jets which worked well. 2 M3 washers under each needle also seemed to do the job.
Front fork rebuild, new springs, new oil, spacers etc. Heard very good things about the progressive springs

This could be one awesome little bike! |

Got the braided lines on, loads better. They were only 22 pounds from busters and came with everything, only the front lines though, and replaced the fluid in both systems.
Also ordered everything from Rick Oliver for the carbs and service. Get that done next week as I don't want it off the road at the weekend.
Need to change the front tyre now and it's past the indicator, I am going to change the set and get the BT090s. |

Noooooooo. Binned it.
Enthusiastic cornering, some cunningly placed gravel.
All down the left side scraped, exhaust, mirrors, mirror bracket, front fairing, foot peg snapped off.
Oh well, might repaint the whole thing, any ideas on a colour scheme that is easy to fix when I come off again?! |
