Oh crap, slight problem with bike!

Went outside to put the bike away this evening, I noticed the back wheel seemed a bit wobbly. Gave it a shake and looked at where the long bolt goes through the frame and swingarm.

Checked on the other side of the bike and the bolt along with the nut attached had sheared off!!! I've attached a few images to help out but its not too hard to spot the problem lol. What worries me is I rode the bike home earlier from work and I don't actually know when the bolt snapped!

Now the question is would I be best off hunting something like this down from a breakers etc or get one brand new? Or even get one machined up from a little engineering place?

The bike is a kangda zs which is a chinese replica of a suzuki gs125 Rolling Eyes

Who says that the build quality of these bikes is rubbish haha, bloody thing could have killed me!

. BTW the gear selector knurled joint doesn't look like it seated correctly.

Yes I'd realised I had to get a replacement which was the point of the previous post for advice on where people thought I would be best off finding the part.

Already got my theory out the way so as soon as I can book (and pass!) my das, it will be gone.

And also thankyou for pointing out the gear linkage needing adjustment which I've done since taking the photo Thumbs Up

P.s Rob Yarrr. I don't want to spend any more money on 125's when I'l (hopefully) be passing my bike license soon.

Are the chinese now making fake bikes? Like fake drugs which was on earlier on Fake Britain on BBC1.

I'm sure there is a cargo load of fake bikes coming our way that has no quality check whatsoever.

Did anyone see the Fake Britain episode of the dangerous pit bikes?

thing is the bike is 8 years old now so its stood the test of time so far, just a strange and scary thing to happen on a bike. As soon as I get the bike fixed and pass test it will be gone.....

Oh and still no real useful help as this is the workshop section no??

You can try the breakers but are you sure its not going to happen again? Buy a new one if you can find someone that sells spares for your bike and your happy in the knowledge that it might happen again.

I don't know what you want people to say. Its a death trap. There is no way that I would want a bike on which a major part, 10mm+ in diameter, is able to shear off. I've had bikes that are 30 years old and would never consider it normal for the swing arm pivot to shear.

as a usual note if it the same as suzuki gs125, then one off the gs125 is more than likely to fit - well it is a copy!

Ebay and breaker's yard is best bet, You could try a suzuki dealer and ask how much.

It's just a bolt (albeit a poor quality one). Go to a fastener shop and see if they can get you one. Otherwise, measure the bolt diameter and length and ask if anyone has a suitable replacement.

mate the idea you had about getting one made by an engineering firm sounds best if a suzuki part wont fit get it made i see it as if one can sheer off then what are they making them from coke cans?
if its cheep get it made that way your know its hardened steel

Cheers for the help guys. Im taking the bolt down to a local breakers place to see if they have any replacements. Failing that I'l take it to a local engineering place and see if they can make me a new one up.
