Help For A2 Design Project - motorbike jack

So I am doing A level design & technology & have been asked to design and make a motorcycle jack.
I was wondering how you would want a motorcycle jack to operate and how it would function best for you?

Any suggestions would be a massive help,
any Ideas just let them loose,
what would be a part of your optimum motorcycle jack?(or paddock stand set).

I'd love to see this when you're done as I'm looking to build the same thing. Ideally, I want mine to lift the whole bike (hydraulically), and still be able to take off both wheels once it's up, if required.

If it had a simple tool tray incorporated into it somewhere, and/or somewhere to hold cans of WD or chainlube that'd be cool too.

And the higher it could (safely) lift, the better.

Thanks for the reply, I am also looking at lifting the whole bike, which is one of the disadvantages of paddock stands as they dont provide the clearance.
And normal ones dont support bikes with a single swing arm Confused

Forgot to mention that it'd also be good if it could be folded as flat as physically possible, and be hung on a wall when not in use.

Hi. Is the jack to be part of the tookit while on the road, or as a garage accessory?

I'm thinking how ironic it is that, back when motorbikes had a mainstand (as standard), half the problem was solved.

yeah its to be designed to be used in a workshop/garage,
as opposed to be taken on the road with you.
And I know fairings may cause issues when it comes to design
but all these ideas are a massive help Smile

I made a small one once for my bike at the time RF900R (heavy bike) - the idea was to make a small one that I could bring with me, that would allow lifting only the rear wheel.
Basically it was a triangle with nuts on 2 sides that allowed extending the 2 sides of the triangle. The top of the triangle attached to the right side footrest - then a wire attached to the side stand made sure it wouldnt slip. This meant you could extend the height of the triangle using the nuts on the 2 sides of the triangle and voila the rear wheel was lifted. '
I sold it with the bike and to be honest it wasn't really 100% stable unless you were on a very even surface - but I bet with a few modification it could be made to work with a lot of bikes - and being just a small triangle it was fairly easy to bring along.

I know you are not looking to make a small portable one, but anyway I found it useful at the time.

There is a company that makes a lift that oprates from one side of the bike with one hand and it lifts the bike clean from the deck. Its also on wheels so you can move it about. I think its german and might be on here somewhere, it costs 320 euros though. Find it and make it cheaper and I will personally buy one off you!

Edit: its called Zentral by a company called bursig. Take inspiration its effing fantastic!

So have you seen one of these Zentral stands in the flesh? Im absolutely fascinated by them and would love to know just how they manage not to throw the bike in its side. I imagine they would be wobbly but it looks pretty secure in the vid?

Shame its so expensive! Imagine watching your bike just drop 2 feet off the other side of it?!?! Laughing

Not myself, but did read a thread on another forum (where I saw them first) where people were commenting that in real life it wasn't as secure as it looked in their videos. No one had it fall over I don't think, but they were certainly more cautious.

Looks too good to be true to be honest! I like the idea of being able to lift the bike for maintenance of simply just to turn it round in a small space or get it right to the side of the garage for easy storage.
