 Posted: 17:33 - 28 May 2008 Post subject: Honda CG125 Side Stand |
 |
|
Hi all,
I know this has been mentioned here and there, but has anyone actually managed to get a side stand for their CG125?
I have a 2006 model and from the looks of it the frame has a hole for the bolt and a hook for the spring. I'm in Bristol and I have tried Fowlers, but they won't touch anything that isn't official UK stock tied to your frame number.
I have heard rumours that 'some dealers' can get them from 'other countries' but I have no specifics to go on. None on eBay that I can see, unless I order a bunch from other small Honda bikes and hope I can bodge one to fit.
Any ideas?
Cheers |

You can set eBay up to let you know by email if an item you have searched for becomes available you know? ____________________ Living the dream....on my little 'ol CG125 |

I suspect they'd also fall over really easily on a sidestand. Even old ones don't have sidestands. Ones that pre-date idiot switches.
You can buy universal ones that clamp to tubular frames for about £20.
Here's where I saw them.
Consider attaching it to the swingarm rather than the frame. They do this with some old Brits and MZ 2-strokes. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Prime example of Honda being swallowed by heath and safety sh*te.
all the old CGs had side stands, did anyone complain about the lack of switch? no, because you use your noggin and put it up before you leave, if you don't then its your problem.
Im tempted to take my CG to a Honda dealership, just to show them what a real CG is about: simplicity and reliability, not fancy FI systems and health and safety cr*p.

I'm sure everyone has tried to pull off with their side stand down at some point in their motorbiking history - it could be horrific if the engine didn't actually cut out and you took a left turn... |
Ive pulled off multiple times on my cg, and on my cb250rs with the side stand down, bugger all happens, it just makes a bang, wiggles the back end a bit then puts the stand up.
Cheers

Didn't they put the rubber 'Thingy' on the end of the stand to flick it up in this sort of instance? or am I talking bull? ____________________ Living the dream....on my little 'ol CG125 |

endless nameless on here has a sidestand for his 1982 CG.
although somehow i dont think its an original part, as his bike is nearly horizontal when its on the stand. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Yeah the rubber foot is to kick it up in theory, in practice you've smashed a hole in the road with the metal before the rubber does its job.
Side stands were factory fitted on the '82, AFAIK its some time in the late 90s-early 00s they took it off, major mistake.
Cheers

Just ring and ask the parts desk, if they can get it they'll let you have one. That or find a wrecked drum brake model at a breakers. Its only a bolt, spring and a bit of bent tube.
| tahrey wrote: | I know it's probably bad form for my second ever post on a forum to be an act of deep necromancy, but I can't see anything else concerning this in the search.
So, question: Might a CBF125 stand work, given that it probably inherits much of the CG's frame, and comes ready fitted with one? Or a similar one off eBay (I think there was e.g. the Dylan, CB125 and maybe a couple others I found that were a suitable size when prodding sellers for info).
There might even be a way to jerry-rig the switch, given that the CG does at least already have an in-gear and clutch-released cutout for the starter. I could see running the ignition through a relay slaved through a combination of stand and neutral switch inputs being not too expensive or complicated after all.
If not, where are these garages that have been given the word-of-mouth instructions, and what flavour of masonic handshake is required for them to trust you're not an HSE inspector and admit to knowing it? |

possibly ? maybe? i think? that the foot-pegs for a Honda C-90 are made from one bar that bolts on under the frame and have a side stand attached....i think?
I`m not sure, but have heard that fits? the CG, possibly! maybe.

Right, whilst I wait for my dinner to cook
That link's to the same thing that was popping up on the related ads at the bottom of the page ... well, sort of, as it's now finished and been relisted. From looking at the full size image I'd be a touch wary on how well it might work - it's certainly a different bike (much more faired) and although it's canted over towards the camera a little, the stand mount seems to be MUCH more horizontal than what the cutout on my CG frame is. Mebbe worth looking into the seller's feedback and seeing if they've sold any before with good results.
(I know the Dylan one is supposed to fit, but the feet on the end are generally flat are they not? So it'd be at the wrong angle)
Hrmm. The only way to be sure, I suppose, would be to actually take the plunge, same as with the lamp. But I want to check up on the leccy system first, I drew it out best as I could estimate during some work downtime and then put my putative additions on in a different colour... however it's all potentially bollocks so have brought the manual in to consult properly over munchies.
Definitely interested because I've received a confirmation that I can't get a warranty replacement claim on my "new" centrestand ("They say the damage isn't anything to do with a manufacturing defect on their behalf"... er, how is that possible when they haven't looked at it, owing to it still being on the bloody bike?), and though careful handling has stalled the rapid decline seen before (including a discovery that, with an empty tailbag, the back end is light enough to briefly lift up in the air which lets you kick it up or down with zero effective load), I don't trust it to eventually fail again with the frequency of ups & downs it's generally subjected to - meaning an inevitable further hundred quid or more for a second replacement. Plus it's a right ruddy pain anyway.
OK off to tend to the oven... |
