Ah sitting here thinking back to when i was 16 riding mopeds.
Found some pics of the mopeds i had Razz

My first moped was the Tomos 50. Looked exactly like the Puch MS50 except it was wind cooled where the MS50 has air cooling.
Mine looked like this one. (This seems to have been modified and the air cooling removed. Probably using the Puch Maxi cylinder and top end like My tomos had after i wrecked the original one.
I had this about a year i think before i forgot about it in a friends shed and got a Yamaha. (It's probably still in his shed *shrug*:
https://www.atommax.com/cybermax/k3.jpg

This looks exactly like my second moped. Had it a year till it got stolen. Yamaha FS1:
https://www.moped2.org/d/moped/yamaha/wow.jpg

The one moped i always wanted but could never afford was the Honda CD50. A 4 stroke moped that sounded amazing compared to the rice racers everyone else had.
Just take a look at this and tell me it's not utter moped sex! just look at the exhaust *droool*:
https://www.minibike.nu/HONDA%20CD50.jpg

In Denmark regular mopeds are limited to 30km/h.
Shortly after i stopped riding mopeds all these scooters came out and they're still here!
I never really see a proper moped anymore and i think it's a shame because to me they have a lot more character than the plastic scooters about today.

What did you begin your biking days on?

CB100N. At 16, I couldn't afford a moped (taking the bus was an extravagance) so walked everywhere.

Where i grew up all you can ride at 16 is a moped limited to 30km/h.
At 18 you can ride a scooter limited to 45km/h if you have a car licence.
You can also do your bike licence at 18 but you're limited to 250cc for 2 years i think.
We didn't have the luxury of fast bikes at 16-17 like you do here lol.
I have a feeling not a lot of you guys started on mopeds Smile

Puch Maxi.

Would've liked a Fizzy but couldn't afford one.

https://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/617851/DSCN1096.jpg

heres what im riding Smile
Fitting some flatter/drag bars for comfort and doing a few other mods, like the original speedo was beyond saving so im going to get a bar mounted speedo, and maybe some nice old fibreglass panniers and eventually some clean chrome coil shocks, the originals are very rusty and quite worn out.

absolutely love it! Will keep it for ever, so much fun to work on and ride (when it works!) hopefully soon ill actually be able to use it as reliable transport, and at some point id quite like to build a custom engine for it, the french are still really into mobylettes even though their emmissions laws effectively banned two strokes (AFAIK) and there are some insane watercooled, heavily ported, reed inducted monsters with custom variators (even with a pedal which allows you to manally control the variation of the engine, effecively giving you an infinitely variable manual clutchless gearing!) which pull ridiculous speeds, so once the bikes 'done' so to speak Im going to try and get an AV10 bottom end and build up a water cooled top end just for shits n giggles Smile

Im really into these old mopeds though, theyre so much fun and theres something so un-pretentious about the sort of people that ride them (although they are very far and few between in the UK)

You guys should check this website out for some of the custom work they do on mopeds:
https://www.1977mopeds.com/gallery/

Id love another mobylette, or maybe a puch some time, and a Kreidler is on my list of dream bikes, as well as an SS50 or something similar.

I didn't do mopeds when I was younger, started on a CM125.

Arguably the best 125 I've had. Neutral

Hi

25 that are either on the road or will go back on the road (some need nominal work for an MOT).

The 50 on the road is the YSR50

Thankyou. Fancied one years ago and that one turned up a couple of years ago at the Stafford show with 197km on the clocks.

Not that you would want to ride it far (furthest I have ridden it was about 35 miles each way).

All the best

It was one of these in blue with black side panels and horn cover. It had some stickers on the side which it wore when I bought it. I will try and dig out a picture.

https://www.vespaclub.com/OLDVESPA/fusiditesta/PK50.jpg

Vespa PK50S

Despite having a 110 cylinder kit on it, it still only managed to do 45mph. Also I must have gone through about 3 or 4 pistons in the space of about 2-3000 miles.

The slightest spot of rain would have your front brake locking up every time you used it.

I am ashamed to say that it was really fun to ride in the city and racing the v8 Holdens from the lights.
