Hey folks.

I've been lurking for a while now so thought I'd better join and actually thank everyone for all the help they've given me without knowing it. So thanks!

I passed my CBT on 19/07/10 and my Suzuki EN 125 arrives tomorrow. My next door neighbour is a mechanic and a rider and his friend has had it in the garage for 5 months doing nothing so I got it for £800. It's got 2500 on the clock and is in immaculate condition. It passed an MOT yesterday and has had a new battery just in case. I think I've got a bit of a bargain really as it's pretty cheap and great condition (for now!)

I've read a few threads on here so I know it's a grey import but from what I can tell it's very similar to other models so I'll have no problems with parts as and when I need them.

I just wondered whether anyone had any extra info on this bike that I might need to know? I also want to pick up a top box for it as I'm going to commute with it so can anyone give any advice on where to get one?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Weegie

you can get cheepie top boxes from M&P that just bolt onto a rack

https://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/568482/Luggage/Hard-Luggage/Tech-7

or you can go Givi, much better quality but once you start adding up all the fitting kits etc it starts cost a lot.

Thanks Jodie - sure it will be fun!

And thanks Polarbear. Do you think it would be possible to get one the same colour as my bike or will I have to settle for black?

This is my bike:

I suspect you would have to settle for black. The cheepie top box is quick detachable. A plate mounts onto your rack permanently and the box attaches to that with lugs and a screw from inside the box, so youu can easily remove it if you aren't using it.

Mu missus has one on her bandit and for the money its a reasonable bit of kit.

Cheers Polarbear - I guess when I'm bobbing along on a little 125 the colour of the top box is the least of my worries....!

AN - I know! Optimistic much?! It's nippy but "sport" is pushing it somewhat!

So, I've been out on the bike a few times now and I'm finding myself a bit nervous taking corners and going around roundabouts, especially when it's a bit wet. Sometimes I feel I'm carrying too much speed, and then I think I overcompensate on other sections by dropping down to 2nd in some cases.

Is this a normal thing all newbies do or am I being a bit of a wuss and need to lean a bit more!?

I would say that if you feel like you are going too fast then you probably are. Remember that when riding a bike, you need to brake before you get to the corner and ride through it. Don't brake on the corner. You should be doing the comfortable speed when you arrive at the corner.

You will however pick this up as you continue to ride. It will become second nature to you.

i agree with that. the trick is riding within your capabilities. if you feel uncomfortable and think your going too fast then you are. as your experience grows so will your capability to cope with the extra speed in corners.

So after a week and a half on the bike I'm feeling far more confident. I think I was looking too much at the road right in front of my wheel rather than in the direction I wanted to go, which meant I was too upright for cornering, and was either too slow and wobbly, or too fast a running wide. As soon as I started looking into the bends, it all became much easier!

Been cut up a few times, but I saw it coming a mile off so was ready with my thumb on the horn to make them know I wasn't best pleased!

Now, I'm considering doing DAS in a few weeks. Am I running before I can walk here, or is it more a case of "if you think you can, you can"? I can afford it just now, so I'm thinking I might as well go for it. What do you BCF'ers think?

Finally, how much would you pay for an intensive DAS course? Being a bit of a bike newbie I was hoping to do some training days first followed by the tests. I've been quoted £849 for 5 days which includes bike and insurance, and if I don't pass first time it includes free training and bike hire for my next one. Sounds a lot but I have no idea.

I've also been quoted £100 per 3hrs of DAS lessons from another company which sounds a bit more like how I learnt to drive, paying as I go.

Thanks in advance.

Lovely runaround there, do the DAS Smile buy the week course as that's a cracking deal with the pass guarantee. I spent just over a grand on mine and went cbt - mod 1- year out from training - mod 2 with no previous biking experience, not riding in the year out. 8 days training in total, plus the exam days.

Get it done now and just have it for when you want something a bit bigger, plus regulations are changing in october once again so better to get it before even more restrictions come in Smile
