Ignition barrel loose: could this mean a variety of things?

Getting my arse into gear now and seriously looking for a 125. There's a YBR that is close enough to me that it's still practical to go see it, yet far enough away that the ride back would be a bit of an adventure.

The thing is, there are two things wrong with it. First, the neutral indicator light doesn't work (a fairly simple fix I imagine). Secondly, and most worryingly (or maybe not if you know what you're talking about) is, as above, the ignition barrel is loose.

What is the most likely reason for this? What comes into my head is that it was stolen, or at least someone tried. Or is there another explanation? I'm keen to get a bike as I hate driving my car (can't wait to sell the thing).

Obviously I can do a HPI check, just wanted to know if I was being a bit paranoid.

Personally I'd check out it's history, go for the HPI check.

How old is it, and is the barrel itself loose or the fitting to the bike?

and the neutral light could be an easy fix, but it could also be a right pig.

Make sure the price takes this and the ignition problem into account. If it doesnt just walk away, plenty of other ybrs and the like around.

Thanks guys. It's a 2007 model. The ad says the barrel just needs bolting on. Not sure how bad it is from that description, and there's no way to tell from the pictures.

Think I'll do the check on it, to be sure.

The light doesn't work when it's in neutral. Apart from that (and the ignition barrel) it's supposed to be fine.

Probably too late now, but I would say that is definitely an attempted theft. And as Polar Bear says, it can be a pig of a job.

Someone tried to nick my CG125 a couple of years back, ripped the ignition out, and in the process ended up knackering most of the electrics. The neutral light didn't work, and the indicators only worked intermittently. I needed to fit a new ignition barrel, and due to the theft attempt, it wouldn't fit properly into the old slot.

It's not too difficult if you know what you're doing, just double check all electrical connectors on the bike ( I didn't know what they were all for before, but I do now, so something good has come out of it.) More than likely the one for the neutral light will be disconnected, and maybe a few others as well.

Might just be a bulb though, in which case ignore everything I just said Wink

Glue was the only solution I found for the loose ignition barrel.
