 |
|
Having got used to proper brakes on the CB500 i'm not looking forward to getting reaquainted with the CG's drum brakes (i'm currently restoring the bike with the intention of using it for cheaper commuting). The good news is that the front brake shoes are pretty much at their wear limit, so i get to have some new ones
What brand though? (anyone tried a few out before, noticed any difference to the braking power?)
Only recommendation i have so far is for EBC: https://hondacg125.awardspace.com/brakes.htm - but they're expensive... Are they really any better/more powerful than the cheapy no-name brands? (i'm trying hard not to be suckered by advertising here). ____________________ -- Ingah |

Not sure about CG specific brakes, but EBC usually fare well on most bikes...
As an alternative I've also used Kyoto branded pads on a few different bikes with very effective results.
A word of warning though, DO NOT get Armstrong branded pads etc.
I bought and fitted a set recently and found that they were VERY abrasive on the brake disks, as well as being worn down to the metal base in less than 2 months commuting.
It actually looks like I'll probably have to replace my rear disk very soon because of those Armstrong pads ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Cheers for that (but looks like it'd be very slightly more expensive than the Honda dealer in this circumstance as i only want the front shoes, so £14.38 + £1.95 delivery = £16.33 vs Honda's £16 for EBC or £15 OEM - i have to go pick up bits from Honda anyway so the postage to the door's no use this time).
I'm in two minds though, as i found these cheap(est on eBay) pattern shoes and the seller thinks they'll fit (i'm going to send them the dimensions again to check as i'm not 100% convinced yet after David Silver got it wrong):
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220636963494
(Total: £6.64 incl delivery).
If it was merely the rear drums, i'd have bought them already and be patting myself on the back for saving a tenner, but as the front brake is for when you really need to stop, i'm back to mild indecision (a price based decision is easy, but it's like trying to measure the difference between a swing and a roundabout as far as performance goes). ____________________ -- Ingah |
