After highsiding on the exit of a roundabout (read was going too fast and too optimistic to make it Laughing)
The zx636 has come off the road for some well deserved pampering and upgrades while the ccm r30 has became the daily hack.
How she was pre-crash
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00173.jpg

First things first was to strip the bike down so i could inspect the broken parts
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/IMAG0045.jpg

The right side fairings etc all took a big knock
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00330.jpg
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00333.jpg

Front clock bracket and mirror brace bent and snapped
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00359.jpg

So got to repairing them, out comes the plastic welding rods and mini blow torch
Nosecone welded and fillered needs just the hole filling now
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00336.jpg

Replacement parts needed :-
Fairings repair and respray
Right rearset
Right mirror
New screen
New indicator
Mirror brace
Clock mount

As well as these parts im also trying to include some functional yet tarty mods.

The bike being a 2002 and it still had the original shock felt a bit soggy now and again, so i looked around and sourced a 2008 zx6r shock for 45 posted, i knew it wouldnt be a straight fit but wasnt afraid of slight modifcations to make it fit.
What was in there
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00353.jpg
Bodged up jack to get rear in air
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00352.jpg
What came out
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00354.jpg
The 08 shock wouldnt fit past the bush at the bottom mount of the suspension knuckle so out came the angle grinder and file, and after a hour of tinkering around in it slots
https://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o297/Gfxs/ZX636/DSC00355.jpg
Looks alot better and from just sitting on it feels alot stiffer than the old shock

More to come to keep checking back!

Tutton: Can you compare the 636 and the r30? I've got a 404 and find it great fun on twisty back roads, although any sort of straight and it becomes boring fast. But, it also feels more practical for getting passed a line of traffic (which includes sports bikes), so that I can enjoy the lanes more.

I've a feeling if I sold the 404 and got a 600 I'd miss the sillyness that you can do on the supermoto. I think it would be a complete bastard getting a 600 in and out of a shed too Smile

Looking good so far Thumbs Up

From some of the threads on here it seems as though the nose cones on the ZX6 self destruct on any impact Laughing

Waiting for paint for fairings to turn up and some more little mods to come. Yeah the nosecones are rare as they always seem to be the part that gets high amounts of damage

Hazy there a totally different kettle of fish, the 604 is a awesome little lane and town tool, wheelies, stoppies lockups and general hooliganism topping out at around 100 mark, keeping my license alot safer than the 6, altho as youve said overtakes of a row of vehicles is great on the ccm as its high for visibility.
The 636, compared to the ccm is endless power and good handling, real nice bit of kit for quite a small price and look pretty, great for motorway or fast a road blasts, hellish to commute on!

Keep 'em peeled for more updates soon

In a way they saved it from gravelrash on the side fairings (been there done it before Laughing) but no i think it made more damage by bending up like they always seem to do and snapping all the fairing around them, the snaps being so severe it was a close call between repair and new fairing...

Generally, lowsides they help.

Highsides... they don't.
