Hi all

Seeing as some of you guys have helped with my first project i thought i would post some 'so far' pics of my 929 fireblade 'fighter'. you can be honest...i know some people think you shouldnt mess with sports bike too much but i like to fiddle Twisted Evil and i like the new look Cool .

The thing is, when i got it, the previous owner had bunged race fairings on it with a custom graphic design and bodged some lights in to them so he could use it on the road. The first picture is how the bike was when i recieved it....it looks nice from a distance, but take it from me it was a bit messy up close.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/1.jpg

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/2.jpg

First thing to sort out was the rear end. The race solo seat was naff and i like the option of pillion for my wife so had to restore the rear to mostly original shape (thanks david silver spares and ebay!). I did, however keep the custom tail tidy that was already installed.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/4.jpg

Rear end sorted. Got some cheap fireblade decals and applied them myself. Time will tell if they last or not Rolling Eyes That exhaust had to go so sold it on ebay for £73 and managed to get a nice condition scorpian can for half that! Nice.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/5.jpg

So my attention turned to the front end. I wanted twin dominator headlamps. I know, they're a bit of a cliche now but i really like the look of them. However, in order to clear the clocks (which i wanted to keep) some major bodging had to be done. Had to bend the clock bracket some, hacksaw some redundant edges and fabricate an extra piece so that the clocks sat at an acceptable angle. Phew Praying

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/7.jpg

Ok so it looks very amateur (my new clock bracket is the silver piece sitting above the lamps) but it works and i had a screen on order to cover it anyway. Mounting the lamps required oversize clamps due to the USD forks and the wiring required some Thinking Brick Wall Sleeping Praying Embarassed and some help from some BCF legends, a wiring diagram and my mate John.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/8.jpg

At this point i gave the bike a service. Oil and filter, BMC air filter. Brake fluids and rear pad change. Coolant change and plugs. The previous owner had installed ohlins front springs so that was nice. The bike also has a power commander installed. I purchased some nice triangular shaped mini indies too.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/9.jpg

My airblade screen soon arrived, and i purchased some gold bar ends and stylish mirrors. The mirrors though will have to go as they are too small for me....cost £70 for the pair...£30 to one of you guys. PM me if interested.

So, this is where i am now.

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/10.jpg

https://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab266/flumpy7/11.jpg

I want to put some straight bars on and have already got a gold renthal bar. I wanted to do this project on a budget so tried playing around with an old 250 superdream top yolk and risers but it aint gonna happen. Am currently looking at this set https://www.streetfighterstore.co.uk/comfort_kit/183. Its pricey so will have to wait a couple of months. Any one got any other ideas? And let me know what you think of the bike. Cheers for looking guys.

Like what you've done. Please dont refer to it as your "Streetfighter" though. I hate that saying. Laughing

Lights want tilting down a bit by the looks of things.

Keep up the good work.

Street fighter? You have taken the fairing off of your blade and put lights on it, you also removed a solo seat, all you have done TBH is lower the value of your bike.

Well to some of us our bikes are not just a financial investment but about putting our own unique stamp on our machines. I like it that my blade doesn't look the same as everyone elses and that i did it myself. If you read the comments i made, i didnt 'just take the fairings off and put lights on' - it involved a fair bit of work to get things to fit and im not yet finished. To quote wikipedia

"A streetfighter is a superbike that is customized by removing the fairing, and making other changes that result in an overall more aggressive look"

You got to start somewhere and im enjoying the process. Sure, its not gonna win any competitions but it IS fun.

Well that's wrong.

It's not about aggressive looks, it's meant to be about making the bike more suited to street use. Taking the fairings off and fitting an after market headlight isn't how to make a street fighter. Wink

I'm pretty sure you need to raise the bars, else it's just a sports bike with the fairings missing Laughing

Flippin' eck you're a miserable lot. TBH im pretty bored of the argument over what constitutes a streetfighter. Next time I'll just call it my fireblade project to make it look, feel and sound different. Is that OK? Sleeping

Also, as i have said a few times, its not finished...thats what makes it a project. If you dont like it....fine, each to their own,but you cant tell me its not what i want it to be....surely i decide that?

Quote:

Yup thats next, although i disagree that it somehow becomes a streetfighter because i raised the bars. I thought that was more about being easier on the back! Wink

Finally....maybe its just removing fairings and and bolting some lights on on a bandit, but its not so easy with a 'blade. Maybe in a few years i;ll have enough guts to slap the rear end of a spitfire or something on but until then, like i said, im learning.

fair play to you for sticking up for yourself after what's been a general slating of your project but why aks people to rate it if you've obviously not been happy with their comments.

i'm not a fan of streetfighters. Personally i think it ruins a perfectly good bike but if i asked people to rate my project i wouldn't take offence when negative comments are the result.

not everyones taste is the same as yours. Accept that or don't ask for comments

Hey im totally up for comments on whether people like what i've done or not. Trust me, i can take it....the wife dishes enough out! "its shit" is fine.....not very constructive but its an honest opinion.

I just hate the view that i havn't done enough to deserve to give it the title of streetfighter. Whoop de doo....its just a word. I guess its just the fashion to slate people for not understanding the cool lingo.

On another note pinkyfloyd, i understand what you say about ruining bikes, but i suppose its all about what you want out of biking. I like to ruin the factory look, it gives me pleasure. I have friends though that take serious pride in keeping their machines original so that people can say "look there goes a 929" or whatever. Horses for courses.I like to make people think for a bit.

Cheers for that, might have to go for the hoses. I would really like a bling radiator grill but yet to find someone who stocks one for fireblades.

I crashed my zx6r and have done similar to you.

I just drilled the top yoke and fitted MX bars to it.

Note: My bike is a Cat C write off that now owes me £250. I REALLY dont care what it looks like now Laughing

Yeah i was gonna do that and put the superdream risers on mine. Theres 2 problems. The front suspension adjusters are really high and the risers dont clear them, and my top yolk isnt flat so cant fit anything to it. Gay.

Hope you get yours back on the road without too much fuss evoboy.

What was this fair bit of work?

As far as I see you have ditched the fairings and fitted some cheapo lights new mirrors and a screen. Oh you changed the seat unit and the can too. If you like your bike great but don't expect people to get wet over a blade with no fairings.

I don't mind the kind look, though I'd say wide bars are required for a streetfighter.
Consider that style more a modern day cafe racer myself.

Anyway, bike looks far too shiny - need some dusty/dirt on it to show you enjoy riding it, rather than rubbing it clean Wink.

To be fair, if you don't want negative posts, you probably shouldn't start the thread title with "rate my..." Wink

i for one love fighters,
but i hate twin dominator headlights,
they are shit, a single bandit headlight is far more useful, and looks better as well

as for clip ons on a fighter, they have there place,
they just arn't suiting your bike,
i know fighters are a progression so im not going to burn you yet,
