I was very much tempted by the HTC Desire and the new Samsung Galaxy S.

Then I succumb to the Iphone 3GS on Three. £30 to buy and then £30pm for 24 months.

Iphone is easy to use.

Only had it 2 days but 2 gripes thus far:

Other phones cannot connect/send data via bluetooth

Which leads onto me having to transfer all my existing phone contacts onto my PC, to Outlook, before then transferring them onto the Iphone.

I like the Iphone but I went with the Sony Ericsson X10 Xperia. (Not mini)
Love it.
8MP cam, the media player is good enough for me.
8Gig card comes with it - Photos are really good.
Runs like the Iphone in regards to touch screen
android market is good.
Im really happy with it - only prob is battery - which I have to charge once a day, all depends what your running.
I have downloaded a free app to disable some apps that start on start up.
Much prefer this then the Iphone Imo.

Had a Dell Streak for a month now. I am paying £30 a month on a 24 month on O2.

Good bits
Arrow Great camera
Arrow Big screen is a help rather than a hindrance
Arrow Sat-nav is better than a Tom Tom
Arrow Playing music etc very easy, sound quality very good through headphones
Arrow It's ridiculously fast at loading things

Bad bits
Arrow Built-in speaker is crap
Arrow Battery life not so good, but it seems to have improved a bit now
Arrow Can't use upright on home screen, although this can be solved by installing Open Home if it bothers you that much
Arrow Cases and accessories from Dell are expensive
Arrow Would be nicer if the USB/charging cable was longer
Arrow Some third party apps won't make use of multi-touch stuff with it running Android 1.6, this will be fixed when they bring out FroYo for it though

ive got a 5230 using the symbian os
its a bit bulky compared to the iphone,
but the satnav uses proper downloadable maps
so even if you are out of the network area you still can use it,
map are free, and you can get nearly every country,
it browses the web pretty well, and had handwriting recognition
plus it only cost $300nzd (about 120 quid)
there arn't as many apps
but i'd still rather it over the iphone,
as im anti anything apple,

Don't bother with the task killers, they do more harm than good. Android is designed to disable apps after they have been idling for a certain period of time (well either way, it just closes them if you aren't using them anymore, it just knows Laughing ). The task killers actualy make your phone run slower and i found it made my battery run out quicker.

I had a HTC legend (for sale Razz ) and now have a HTC desire and wouldn't look twice at another phone.

Tbf i would go for an android phone (slightly biased maybe, i dunno) however, be careful which one you go for if you do. Some are only running Android 1.6 (some even 1.5 iirc!). The htc legend, desire and the google nexus one are all on 2.1 (amongst other android phones but can't remember which) with 2.2 just around the corner (unofficial roms are available). I'm not sure if the phones currently running 1.5/1.6 are due an undate to 2.1/2.2 so you will be best off doing some research first.

You are never going to get proper camera quality pictures from a phone, yes some take pictures better than others but how often do you need a crystal clear photo when out and about and don't happen to have you proper camera with you?

Anyway, HTC Desire's can be had for £350-£400 brand spanking off ebay. I got mine for £290 because it was locked to t-mobile, £8 unlock code and job done Razz

Im holding out for the HTC Desire HD as the HTC EVO 4G wont be coming to the UK. I was looking at the Desire but will wait for the Desire HD, currently have the HTC Hero, i like Android OS, the streak does look good but a big big to use as a phone imho.

https://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/rumored-htc-desire-hd-specs-surface-4-3-inch-screen-8-megapixe/

Also waiting for the Asus Eee PAD as i think it will be better for me than the iPAD.

i have the palm pre which i think is great, its not in the same league as the iphone but you dont have to install wanktunes onto your pc just to use it.

there are some cool apps on it and the keyboard is really easy to use.

and its not as big and bulky as the other smart phones which is a bonus.

bad points, and there are some.

can have connection problems when trying to connect to the net either using wifi, edge, 3g, or gprs.

battery life is shite. i charge mine twice a day sometimes depending on how much i use it.

I believe the HTC Desire is the best phone on the market at the moment. When I was in Carphone Warehouse there was people walking in looking to get an iphone and leaving with the Desire.

I have a Wildfire. It's not as good as the Desire (slower processor, lower resolution screen) but it's cheaper and smaller. It has all the same features etc. It depends what you want it for and budget really.

ATM Desire is the best in terms of specs.

Very soon though, HTC are bringing their next gen out which should be pretty awesome.

ive tryed the..

Iphone 3g
Iphone 3gs
Iphone 4
HTC Desire
X10 Xperia
( and a few more, but these are the 'main' ones)

...
The iphone 3g, obviously dated, but it does what you need it to...
3gs... Runs alot faster and smoother... Very very good phone, i use one of these every day.
Iphone 4.. Runs very very nicely, Very well equiped.. will upgrade to one of these next i think.

HTC Desire.. My mum ended up going for one of these.. Very nice phone, runs very well with the touchscreen, i just dont like android + market.. Yes it comes with satnav, but jailbreak your iphone, and its free anyway...

X10... Bag of Sh*t... Runs so slowly, very non-responcive, lots have been returned due to connectivity problems on either signal, or 3g, or wireless.. Apps run for no reason when you dont want, and will keep popping back up.. Returned one of these 3 times.. and ended up changing phones...

All in all, id go for the iphone 3gs or 4.... Jailbreak it , and bobs your uncle... - Nothing about names or anything, they just are the better smart phone imho.

easier way is setup a gmail account and sync them to that. Any time you make it change to a contact its synced back as long as you have a net connection.

Added benefit is that any other device that can sync to exchange gets the updates and can be used with contacts, calendar and mail.

Got the HTC Desire free for 30 quid a month with 900 mins and unlimited everything.

It's the first time I've ever had a smart phone, or a contract phone for that matter. Not had a chance to really get the full use out of it yet, but so far so good. Some of the apps are quite good and usefull whereas others are just pointless.

Just dont do what I did and leave on the auto upload to photobucket or facebook and take a pic of your errect penis to send to the wife via bluetooth to annoy her, while you are on the toilet and she is cooking home made soup. Didnt realise until a few hours later .Embarassed

Well basically, iPhone, either 3G S or 4 is the best phone on the market, the 4 is far better than the 3G S.

Want to go Android, and its basically the Desire, Galaxy S or Dell Streak.

I had a go of the X10 & took me a while to find the menu. I wasn't too keen on the phone, mainly because i noticed when scrolling down or through pages you sometimes selected an app. The iphone has a much clearer/simpler/less cluttered interface i find.

Plus the good thing about the iphone being so popular is that there's always new apps coming out & people creating their own.

Thankfully I dont have a facebook, and my photobucket aint exactly visited much, although it could have been very messy. Would have been interesting if it was geo tagged to panoramio. "Oh I wonder what there is to do around Motherwell withing 1.5 miles, WTF!!"
Thank fuck there isnt a "BCF Upload" app Laughing
