I currently own a GV Rex-x nitro buggy.. without an engine
Being young and stupid when I was younger the process of 'running in' meant going flat out and as quick as possible!
My engine lasted about 12 times until it came to a halt one day.. and sat in my room for ages
Now I have the urge to get it back up and running again... The piston and liner are fucked, and thinking of just getting a nice new engine for it. It's the 3.5cc one...
Any good engines you recommend?
Cheers! ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

Haha yeah getting a bike is turning out to be a bit of a bitch.
Gonna wait till I can get a 250 or something so I need a motor to play with! ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

Stopped using them once i got into biking at around 16.
Still have a couple in the garage for if i ever want to get back into it. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

Used to own a Kyosho Inferno :o The day I got it I blew the engine up, not a good start After getting a brand new engine (£50 IIRC) everything was good though, but it just got a bit tedious and expensive to maintain and at the time I was only 16. A fun hobby indeed but you need to have the money and patience. I remember the fuel was £20 a gallon, bet it's went up since then. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Its gone up a couple of quid per gallon but not much i suppose, depends what quality fuel you want.
Think yourself lucky you didn't start racing. I used to race 1/10th electric touring cars. A race weekend could easily run into the hundreds!
£25 for a set of tyres, 3-4 sets per weekend, couple of bodyshells, new cells (batteries to you lot) every few race weekends once you start getting more serious. A few different motors (£60 a pop at the time), servos were £100 each and i went through a couple of them, speed controllers £150-£200 a pop.
Thats not taking into account the initial outlay to get a decent quality setup
A £50 engine is classed as a 'budget' engine in the grand scheme of things, you can expect to pay £300+ for one if you want a shit hot one ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

Aye mine was just the engine, no clutch or anything so it was pretty cheap Reason it blew up was because the previous owner had been running it on a less powerful fuel (I can't remember the right term ) and didn't think it would matter if I use the more powerful stuff (powwwwwwwah!!! etc). I went through a few pull starts not to mention tires, suspension... Still, I feel as though I learnt quite a bit... I was good at tuning them, which of course to had to do every single time you used it, several times. Even though mine was a buggy if I took it to a BMX track I nearly always broke something, or got scared I'd land on the roof and rip the engine off its mounts. Don't even start me on cleaning the thing, had to strip it down every time after a trip out. Oh, the clutch was knackered as well, used to fall apart... and the chassis was bent to f*ck... Could of spent a hell of a lot more money on it. I always wanted one of those HPI Savage things, 2 gears, wheelies and all that ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Isn't BlueSV into his Nitro.
I used to run a Rex-X many moons ago.
Sold it after I discovered bikes and women. ____________________ My Flickr |

I've got a traxxas revo and just brought it down from the wardrobe after 2 years of gathering dust. It's got a new bigger engine in it and I couldn't be arsed running it in, but will make the effort soon. Spent loads on upgrading suspension and replacing bearings, wheels, shell etc.
I got ripped of on it originally on ebay and have probably spent £500 all in making it faster and looking new again.
Have charged the batteries and it's ready to roll. Mmm, wonder if 2 year old fuel will still work. |

No I was always told to discard any fuel left in the tank after each run. Nasty stuff anyway. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Getting a new piston and liner kit is the best (most cost effective and least hassle) solution.
You don't really need to run them in revvs-wise, just run the mixture a bit richer.
If it only lasted 12 times it was coz you were running it too lean!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Cheers guys, figured I may aswell get it going seeing as its just a waste of money gathering dust... I just found the fuel... Did'nt even get through half a gallon haha
Hmmmmm Bluesv It was running pretty rich, I think just purely the lack of running in or perhaps a dodgy manufactured piston could be why ?
As for the engine I would need a .21 and I would like it to last long as poss and be relatively cheap!
Thanks again! ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |
