Not really sure if the bike runs AC or DC. I can see it has a voltage regulator, but not a rectifier ... so I am thinking it is probably AC ... however, the horn must be DC right?!?!!?
Basically I want to wire up a sat-nav to my 2000 KTM 250 EXC 2t and I need regulated 12v DC to tap into ... ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

So from that, is it safe to conclude that the standard setup is AC??? ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

You do not require a battery for a 'bike'* to run.
As witnessed by home illuminations, lights can work off AC too .
* Of course many do, ie many with just electrical start, with fancy electronics and FI etc. |

The wiring diagram states the horn as DC ... it also has a 'capacitor' in the circuit ... wonder if I could tap DC off the capacitor!!? ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

my german is shit but on page 11-5 there is an eletrical chart code to accompany the wiring diagrams
according to that the 99 250/380 has a rectifier and the diagram shows DC
and I'm assuming if it still has a horn there will be 12v DC wiring for the lights etc
a cheap test meter will tell you if you have AC or DC and the voltage
and if you know how to use the meter measure the current (Amps)
as you may need to have a certain rating to run your satnav without damaging it or not
delivering enough current for it to work
this may help its a link to a 2003 250exc with the full wiring diagram
and good info on the other eletrical system

I know that house lights use AC but as far as I'm aware all modern bikes / cars run DC for the lights etc
and as his bike is the EXC unless its been stripped it should have a battery ____________________ I have become comfortably numb

Thanks for the effort, but that is for the wrong model bike, mine is a 2000 2-stroke.
My bike has no battery or electric start. The lights ARE AC, it is only fitted with a regulator (not reg/rec) ... oh and the capacitor ... ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Yep, that is the one I was working from (had downloaded it before). You can see it is AC ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Might it not be worth just getting an extra battery to cover that?
As I said the other day, was going to make something, maybe with 10x AA batteries in a little holder to power it for the push bike. May be a load less hassle - think I've got all the needed stuff, so may give it a go this week, though as I said, think I may have blown my 12v road angel adaptor . |
