I talked to a friend today who wanted help with an oil change on his bike.

He said that the latest info is if you are caught doing a wheelie then you will go to prison for 3 months.

I told him I have not heared of this one but would ask all the knowledgeble bikers Wink on BCF

So has anyone heared of this or has he just been fed some bullshit.

not heard that here either...

sounds like an excessively severe sentence for a wheelie - unless you were caught doing it on a stolen bike, while banned, with no helmet on and an opened bottle of JD in your hand??

You won't go to prison for doing a wheelie, unless you're also going 150mph and run over some kittens.

A wheelie is dangerous driving, if caught and they were prosecuting you then I'd say you could expect a fine, some points and maybe a short(ish) ban. What you'd actually get would depend on the circumstances.

I think the courts (oops I mean CPS) would find it hard to pin DD on you for a wheelie if you were not around people, or in a place where people are likely to surprisedly sneak up on you.
More likely to go for 'driving without due care and attention' or whatever they call it these days.

All depends on the circumstances. People have killed people on the road and not gone to jail for it, so they wouldn't automatically slap you away for a mono.

Doing a Wheelie is Punishable by being put in jail.
(If you over cook it and bin a decent bike in the process.)

Well it should be.. Mad

I got due care and attention (4 points) I've also seen charges for "not being in full control of the vehical" (don't quote me on the actual wording, but it's the same as being on the phone) which is a 3 point FPN.

You would hero worship a bike thief, riding under a ban (no insurance or whatever) also drink driving???

Most likely that the above 'hero' would probably at worst get another ban and but more likely some kind of cushy rehabilitation/ training course while anyone who actually paid for themselves and their bike to be legal on the road caught attempting a wheely on a quiet road out of peoples way probably would get jail time!

The main argument used against wheelies is the fact that something like 80-90% of a bikes braking force is from the front wheel.

Silly argument when on a decent bike you can put it down and stop well, well before an old car/bike.

Cannot i not argue i have MORE braking force on the rear than on the front?

Would the back not just lock up as there is no weight on it.

I thought the front was effective as it was in front of the mass of the bike.... Confused

But cool picture anyway. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Probably find thats an oversized rear disc as well borrowed from a Busa.

The front brake is fairly useless when riding on one wheel lol.

And why choose those, when the R1 blue-sports fit the same fixings and are nicer - then maybe they'd not need the extra 1/2 a brake 'standard' rear Razz.

Depends on the rider G.

Alot of guys rig them up different.
Some just have the stock caliper for footbrake, and twin nissins for handbrake.

Some combine the two.

Some guys have a third brake elsewhere on the bike.
(You've seen the videos of the guys doing no handed highchair with a fork mounted brake operated with the foot right?)

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you're doing a wheelie, isn't ALL of your braking power from the rear wheel? Laughing

All the bike's weight is going through it too, so you'll have good traction (until the front hits the deck anyway), unlike the usual situation where you could well end up lifting it off the pavement itself if you have enough grip and brake force up front.

I think the argument may be more 1. you've got far less steering ability, 2. harder to see where you're going, 3. all too easy to overcook it and spazz your bike into oncoming traffic.

Still harboring quiet ambitions of getting mine to sit up and beg all the same... if I can manage it on a pushbike, then...? Mr. Green
