Nothing interesting really, just thought I'd see how often it happened. I was at the petrol station last night and as I left the lady serving (in her mid-late 50's) thanked me for taking off my helmet. Anybody else had this or any other nice things like that?

Although a man in a German petrol station did once tell me that I needed 3 euros for the coffee I wanted.

(I didn't know what he was saying at the time, as I can't speak German, but once I thought about it, I realised he was saying "drei" and "euros", but at the time I was flustered by his foreign lingospeak)

I once had a nice thing happen at a petrol station.

I filled up, went to pay, then realised I had left without wallet or money.

The lady kindly said I could pay next time I came in. Not sure what else she could have done really. But it was said in a nice way, and so I was grateful, and did go back and pay the next day.

It was a different person on duty, and they looked a bit puzzled at me handing over money for something yesterday, and just put it in the till.

Never been asked to remove my helmet, I pretty much go to the same petrol station most of the time.

So it's always the little old lady serving me.

Thumbs Up

I can see this thread going into the direction, Motorcycle Lids vs. Muslim Viels.

Probably because you have gold blobbs Thumbs Up

One station i go to regularly(or did) now has signs on pumps stating helmets must be removed so cashier can verify you are over 16 Shocked

Anyway, i buy flip helmets to avoid doing this, when on ZZR they get arsey(?) on tannoy saying remove lid to which i go to window and ask why they think i am a thief, this confuses them quite a lot.
On pan european they just switch on the pump no hassle Confused

I've got a flip helmet and I went into a newsagents with it flipped up to buy a paper. The guy behind the counter got all flustered as I walked up to the counter and said "can you remove your helmet when you come in here?".

WTF! I said "it's flipped up you can see my face, don't worry I'm not going to rob you" chucked down the money for the paper and left.

TWUNT!

You have to bear in mind his quick thinking, if you had been a robber you would have had your plans foiled by him telling to take your helmet off Very Happy

Other day at the Brenzett Total I was sitting behind a load of vehicles (most of the unleaded nozzles were out of service) and thinking that the guy on a BMW (R12...something...possibly) was your typical Sunday afternoon poser type when he beckoned me round to jump the queue and take his pump as soon as he'd done Embarassed Laughing

Some fat gobshite in a 4x4 looked like he might have a stroke at the sheer impudence of we motorcyclists...even though he was in a diesel and the diesel nozzle of that pump was out of service Neutral

So thanks to the BMW guy. And also to the long suffering guy in JS Gedge, Hastings, who sorted me out a 420 pitch split link after mine on the RXS broke halfway through the other week - and the spare was nowhere to be found among my tools Shocked

I tend to do this as much as I can now, partly because of the queuing/helmet issue... although it conflicts with another issue, some poor bastards will eventually loose out on a job and petrol stations can become cashless/peopleless things that are remotely monitored.

Im certainly not one for a job for a sake of a job, but having people in petrol stations seems like a normal kinda thing.

In fairness, petrol stations are being done every single day up and down the country for making off without payment.

People drive up with fake plates (some people don't even bother with that?!) fill up, then just foxtrot oscar.

I can understand the garage wanting a record of your face to help police track you down.

Doesn't really explain why they want it taken off inside the shop - but it's their shop, their rules. I don't quite understand what people don't understand about that.

As G said in the KFC racist thread - if you don't like the way a business operates, don't give it custom.

I bet if you had a 98 R1 then they wouldnt say anything. Because if you had made it to the petrol station on one, without dying, then the chances are you're actually chuck norris, and a roundhouse kick to the station attendants face would be the only way to make the situation better.

On the subject of silly petrol stations..

My local petrol station which is actually a small 24/7 Somerfield.

I was on the SV650 at 1am trying to get petrol, she called me over to the little desk since I can't go in as everyone out at 1am is a thief. Rolling Eyes.

Her: "Can you take your helmet off?"
Me: "Sure."
Her: "Thank you sir, now, can you please pay in advance for the petrol you are about to buy?"
Me: "But I just fill until full, not a specific number."
Her: "Oh, then leave your card here please."

After being quite confused about this, I filled up and went to pay.

Her: "Thank you for your co-operation sir."
Me: "But why did I have to pay in advance? You had my plate, my face, my voice, why?"
Her: "Because you may have ridden off without paying, if you were in a car we would not have made you pay in advance. Cars have a plate on front and back, all our cameras face forward so we can't see your numberplate."

At this point, I almost fell over from sheer disbelief! Making MOTORCYCLISTS pay in advance, but not car drivers? Her next gem:

Me: "Oh I see, that's a bit silly in my opinion, you should have cameras both sides then but, you can't get many drive offs!"
Her: "Oh just yesterday sir we had a car steal £48 of petrol!"

WHAT? You make ME pay in advance when yesterday a car drove off with £48 of petrol?

Sorry for this being a bit esoteric but I got the whole story in, sheer disbelief! Lest say I've not used them since. Laughing!

You are not allowed to leave your card unattended like that.

Unless of course you want it skimmed?

Not my card.

Even if it was though, they'd be hard pressed to find somewhere in that shop not covered by cameras to skim it.

Anyway, any cashier could skim your card whilst you're looking straight at them. All they need is the details off of it, who's to say they don't have a phone they can show the card details to that's filming?

I'm not overly worried. If everyone worried about their cards being skimmed, who'd think of the kittens!?

So who's card was it?

This topic has been discussed before on here, and a quick confirmation with my brother, who used to work for one of the major banks, confirms that YOU don't own the bank card. It remains the property of the bank.

Part of your terms and conditions are that you do not leave it unattended like that, mainly to prevent fraudulent transactions.

This is not to say I haven't done it in some places (I remember a bike rally I left my card behind the bar for the whole night, expensive) but I wouldnt be leaving a card with some assistant in the early hours of the morning.

Mother's card.

I'm fairly sure the bank isn't going to come lynch me because I left a card behind a counter for all of 2 minutes.

Dont be so pedantic, of course they wont come and lynch you.

However they could quite reasonably refuse to help you if the card gets cloned, and you did not abide by the terms and conditions of looking after the banks card.

It is not YOUR card to give to the cashier.

Leave cash and ask for a receipt, or leave your ID with them.
